Sunday, 9/8 at 3pm -> Colorado Crush Farewell Goodness w/DJ Low Key, DJ Tense & DJ Miggy Camacho, live art by Miss Reds-AM7 & Deity, The Meadowlark Kitchen & more…

SUNDAY, 9/8 at 3pm -> Some people say Labor Day marks the end of Summer, but they’re way wrong.  Sunday, 9/22 is the Autumn Equinox and coincidentally the last day of Goodness 2013 (put it in your calendar now).  On that note, Summer keeps marching on in grand fashion with everything Colorado Crush this weekend, including Sunday’s Colorado Crush Farewell Goodness w/me, special guests DJ Tense (Stay Tuned) & DJ Miggy Camacho (Lucha Rama), live art by ridiculously dope writers Miss Reds-AM7 & Deity, food by The Meadowlark Kitchen (menu below) & more on the Meadowlark’s incredible patio  (2701 Larimer St).

Colorado Crush is a ridiculously dope art festival going into it’s forth year of bringing CO all sorts of dope art, music & culture and is also responsible for a lot of the beautiful art around 27th & Larimer Street aka the Meadowlark’s neighborhood aka RiNo.  The flyer above has details on Saturday’s prime event (head over to Hiphoprollcall.com for more on all the weekend’s festivities), now that you know all about that and Sunday’s farewell party.

Friday, 9/6 -> The Solution w/DJ Low Key, special guests Sounds Supreme & DJ Dozen, Turner Jackson & Lindsey’s Birthday Party, the Friday night debut of The Meadowlark Kitchen & more…

FRIDAY, 9/6 -> With Lazy Eyez out of town on official Reminders DJ business this week (he’ll be back next Friday to celebrate his birthday), we’ve got some heavy hitting guests coming by to keep DJ Low Key company.  We’re welcoming extra special guests Solution co-founder Sounds Supreme and youngest in charge DJ Dozen (Welcome to the D.O.P.E. Game), as well as celebrating Denver favorite/the D.O.P.E. Game’s own Turner Jackson and our extra cool homegirl Lindsey’s birthdays.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’re ecstatic to announce that we’ll be featuring food from the test kitchen at the brand new Meadowlark Kitchen (official opening coming later this year) every Friday from here on out.  After a quick menu tasting, we couldn’t be more excited about the tasty food options we’ll be able to feature every single week, frequently changing based on what’s in season to always stay fresh and exciting.  If those weren’t reasons enough to come out to the hip hop party that’s “a testament to quality” (c) Westword, we don’t know what is.  21+ / 9pm / No cover until 11pm / Only $5 after.

Monday, 9/2 at 3pm -> Power To The DJs #3 at Goodness w/15+ of Denver’s best DJs & lots more on the Meadowlark’s beautiful patio!!!

On top of great music, we’ll also have some Rockies ticket giveaways and some fun surprises if you join the Power To The DJs e-mail list.  The e-mail list will help all the DJs and everyone who comes stay in better touch, hopefully helping make the scene a little bit better.  The party’s at the award-winning Meadowlark (2701 Larimer St) and kicks off at 3pm sharp.  Shouts to DJ Dozen for helping make the whole event happen and all the great DJs involved.  More info coming soon here and at @feel_goodness.

Sunday, 9/1 at 3pm -> Mas Chingon Goodness w/DJ Low Key, special guests DJ Amen & DJ Wushu and the return of El Chingon for one week only on the Meadowlark’s patio!!!

SUNDAY, 9/1 at 3PM -> Damn.  It’s already September, the last month of Goodness w/DJ Low Key & friends on the Meadowlark’s patio.  Ugh.  It hurts to type that, but it’s true, and on that note, we’re definitely going to be making the most of the month, starting with this weekend’s Mas Chingon Goodness, featuring two ridiculously dope special guests, DJ Amen (Radio Bums) & DJ Wushu (Bass Crooks), joining me on the turntables.

Why’s it called Mas Chingon Goodness, you ask?  Because we’re bringing back Chef David Lopez and the El Chingon crew to do tacos for us for one week only!  If you came out to any Goodnesses in 2012, you already know that they make some incredible (the more traditional yin to Moontower’s fusion yang) tacos and a whole lot more and with their new location at 44th and Tennyson not quite open yet, this party is your best chance to get your Chingon fix for a minute.  21+ / No Cover / 3-10pm.

BTW, there are only 5 more 2013 Goodnesses left (four Sundays + a bonus Power To The DJs edition Goodness on Labor Day), don’t miss a single one!  Also, if you’re wondering, Moontower Tacos will be back next Sunday!!!

About the charity: CSC partners with colleges and universities, supported by corporations and citizens of Colorado, to inspire the scholastic advancement of our students in higher education. For almost 23 years, CSC has provided scholarships to first generation or non-traditional students, who come from all walks of life, yet struggle with financial need. Last semester alone, CSC provided scholarships to 34 students attending Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Colorado Denver, and Community College of Denver. Each of our partnering colleges match CSC funds dollar for dollar to increase twofold the total amount of scholarship funds awarded to our student recipients.

Colorado Scholarship Coalition recognizes the value of higher education to prepare students for successful careers and future positions of leadership in this society. More than 80% of students who attend college in the Denver area chose to stay in the community to pursue their careers. Providing scholarships to underserved and non-traditional students is truly an investment in Denver’s economy and serves to diversify the future leaders of this city. www.coscholarshipcoalition.org

Rest in peace DJ Elroy Boogie…He was one of Houston’s best DJs and inspiration for everyone “fighting the good fight”…

Houston DJ Elroy Boogie’s passing last night has weighed heavier on me than I would have ever expected from the ten or so times we kicked it over the years and I think it’s because he was one of the most unique people I’ve met through DJing.  On that note, I wanted to speak on how I knew him and how he inspired me.

I first met Elroy Boogie when I helped Red Bull throw a Thre3 Style DJ battle in Houston a few years ago.  They had me helping organize some of the event and one of my main responsibilities was to coordinate everything with the competing DJs (invite the DJs to the battle, explain all the details to them, etc).  All the DJs were gracious and excited about the opportunity when I reached out, but man, there was an overwhelming enthusiasm in Elroy’s voice when he repeatedly thanked me for the opportunity and told me what an honor it was to be chosen to compete.  I just took it as him being excited for the battle and kept preparing for the event in Denver before flying out to Houston.  Once I got to Houston and started meeting all the DJs, I realized that it wasn’t just that Elroy was excited about the invite to the battle, but this dude had a love of life that was different than anyone I’d ever met.  That whole Houston trip and every time I ever saw Elroy after, he was always full of a uniquely happy energy; the kind of person who makes everyone around them have a better time, whether at dinner, while DJing or just sitting on a front porch bullshitting.

I ended up spinning the opening set for that Houston Thre3 Style as well, and during my hour long set of random, obscure jams (aka not wanting to play any hits that the competing DJs would be playing later), Elroy and another great Houston DJ, Dayta, kept coming up to the booth, familiar with the random jams I was spinning and excited to hear someone playing them in a club besides themselves.  I’ve made a ton of unbelievable DJ friends in Houston over the years, but the three of us clicked in a different way, due to our more random taste in music, and a year later I found myself hanging out with Dayta and Elroy a ton on a pre-SXSW Houston visit.

Elroy had a love of life that was an amazing thing, but the other thing I appreciated about him most was the type of DJ he was.  Not only was he nice on the tables, but he was one of the rare breed of modern day DJs who are actively trying to improve the quality of club music and their local scene, what I call “fighting the good fight” and not just playing it safe every time they spin.  On nights like Tighten Up Tuesdays, he’d be regularly working with other DJs, taking chances to bring new and creative ideas to the Houston scene and as an out of towner, I always loved seeing and being inspired by what Elroy was doing in Houston, whether in person or seeing what him and the crew would upload from their parties, whether it was flyers, pics or video.  DJs like Elroy are more important to their cities than ever and I witnessed first hand the good things he was constantly doing in Houston.

It weighs heavy on me to know that next time I go to Houston I won’t be able to catch Elroy smashing the turntables or cracking a hilarious goofy joke at Dayta’s house after the club.  With that said, it’s been beautiful to see Houston showing their love for Elroy, may we all hope to impact our cities like he did while “fighting the good fight”.  Hopefully his legacy will continue to inspire other DJs to play the music they believe in, create the kind of parties they’d want to go to and help develop their own scenes.  Much respect to Elroy’s friends and family, The Kracker Nuttz crew, the homies Dayta and Klinch (who threw a ton of top notch parties with Elroy, no pun intended) & the Houston scene, I can only imagine how much this hurts for y’all.  Rest in peace Elroy.

The Solution…Every Friday night at The Meadowlark…Here’s what they say about us…

“Every Friday night at the Meadowlark, The Solution lives up to its tagline, “The best in hip-hop and a whole lot more.” DJ Low Key and Lazy Eyez have crafted an event that lives comfortably inside the realm of quality hip-hop, and still manages to always incorporate artists and records that are mere relatives of the genre. The flawless blend of music packs the dance floor with the eclectic mix of attendees, the DJs are consistently the cream of the damn crop, and every once in a while one of your favorite national artists will slide through with the intimate performance of a lifetime. If you’re sleeping on this one, it’s time to wake the hell up.” – HipHopRollCall.com

“The best hip hop night in Denver” – DearDenver.net

“At this point, the Solution is well on its way to becoming a Denver institution. But it isn’t just our town’s longest-running and most revered hip-hop night — it’s also a testament to quality and resilience. Despite having moved virtually all over town since it was founded half a dozen years ago by DJ Low Key and DJ Sounds Supreme, the Solution continues to draw a faithful crowd wherever — and however — it goes. Even after the Solution took a hiatus from weekly parties, the Solution crew continued to offer showcases featuring a parade of the best local MCs and producers, along with lauded acts from elsewhere. And last month, when the Solution returned to a weekly format at its new home at The Meadowlark, all was right in the cosmos again.” – Westword
