Friday, 3/1 at 6pm -> The Art Of Records II Opening at the Meadowlark, co-curated by Dunn The Signtologist & DJ Low Key…Plus, a built-in afterparty at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez…

FRIDAY, 3/1 at 6pm + afterparty from 10pm on-> #TheSolution6 closes out with the opening of the second Art Of Records show, co-curated by Dunn the Signtologist and DJ Low Key, which features some of Denver’s top artists flipping classic hip hop albums covers in all sorts of incredible directions, all while DJ Low Key rocks at all vinyl set of the records that inspired the pieces.  Last year’s show at Family Affair was RIDICULOUS (see pics here) and things are shaping even even crazier for 2013, so please join us at the Meadowlark as we recognize and pay homage to the talented assortment of artists that make The Art Of Records such an indelible part of loving music.  After 10pm, things switch over to The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez and the party continues on with the best in hip hop & more til 2am, so plan to make a night of it.  Check out a few pics from last year and more info on the show below. 21+/No cover until 11/$5 after/2701 Larimer St.

Over the last few decades album art has gone from a 12” canvases to a 2” screens, and that’s usually the best-case scenario for the often incredible art that accompanies music releases.  Landmark albums like A Tribe Called Quest’s Low End Theory, Nas’s Illmatic and De La Soul is Dead have instantly recognizable covers that are embedded in music and art lovers’ psyches forever, but the 12” as a canvas has become a rarity in the public eye.  Everyone from music and art lovers to average people on the street still connect to both the album art and 12” format, yet we rarely take the time to honor the truly great ones.  The Art Of Records is an exhibit that aims to do just that; focusing on the legacy of exceptional art accompanying exceptional music and the idea of introducing both to a new generation.

The Art Of Records combines art, music and tradition to celebrate and honor the rich history and mystique of record cover art, 12″ vinyl and the artists that create it (both musically and graphically). Curated by Dunn the Signtologist and DJ Low Key, the exhibit features a series of classic 12″ album and single covers re-imagined and recreated by top artists in Denver.  The 12” covers will also be on display and the concept comes full circle with DJ Low Key playing an all vinyl set of the featured records as the night’s soundtrack.

Solution 4 Year Anniversary Announcement #2: Artwork from Detour…Don’t miss the party on 2/4…

From DenverSolution.com: FRIDAY, 2/4 -> We’re excited to announce that acclaimed artist Detour aka Thomas Evans will joining in the Solution’s 4 Year Anniversary festivities.  Detour has become a favorite of the Denver hip hop scene through his musically driven work, including his ambitious CO Stand Up Project which features detailed sketches of the majority of Denver’s hip hop scene.  Check out the full CO Stand Up lineup here on facebook and find more work from Detour at DetourArtStudio.com.

He’ll be joining our other special guest, Cincinnati’s DJ Clockwork (GotClockwork.com /// tour DJ for Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek aka Reflection Eternal and Mac Miller). We’ve still got more announcements about the party coming soon, so stay tuned for more announcements at twitter.com/DenverSolution.

Friday, 12/17 -> Introducing DJ Lazy Eyez…Please welcome him to the Solution…

Every Friday Starting 12/17 -> Best Hip Hop DJ Award Winner, Radio 1190 GM, Basementalism host.  DJ Lazy Eyez has held a lot of titles in his over the last decade.  You may have seen him opening for the Roots, Mos Def, De La Soul or Rakim, rocking at some of the biggest b-boy events in the state or spinning at clubs all along the front range.  Every step of the way, he’s been an advocate for quality music and hip hop culture, not to mention one of the coolest motherfuckers I know.  I’m sure most of the people checking the site are familiar with his work, but if not, please head over to DJLazyEyez.com to find out more about my new partner at the Solution.  Sounds could never be replaced, but we both feel like Lazy is the best man to help carry on the Solution’s tradition and an all around good dude.  I’m excited to hear him spin every Friday night and I already know y’all are gonna love him if you don’t already.  – DJ Low Key

The flip side to Lazy Eyez joining the Solution is that Sounds Supreme will be taking a step back.  Sounds is a one of a kind guy and a hell of a DJ, and this isn’t a situation where Lazy is replacing Sounds by any means; it’s just not possible.  As Sounds focuses on other endeavors, the door is still open and you can expect him to show up for special events at the Solution from time to time (plus there’s been some talk of a DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme monthly too).  The Solution’s gonna miss you Sounds, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing you at some point in 2011.  In the meantime, stay tuned to DJSoundsSupreme.com for more info on what Sounds is up to.
