I don’t know how I managed to miss this when it was initially posted, but I came across this Urb Magazine feature when I saw people clicking the link in my site traffic a while back.  With that said, I’ve been reading Urb for probably a decade or so, so it was an honor for them to feature me as the Denver inclusion on their list of America’s Best Local DJs.

Disclaimer: There are a ridiculous amount of dope DJs in Colorado and the last thing I’m trying to do is ego trip and claim I’m the best.  With that said, it’s awesome that Urb decided to call me “the top of the pile”.  Check out the piece below or at Urb.com:

DJ LOW KEY (Denver)-
In a land where there are more DJs than emcees, Denver houses some of the best, and at the top of the pile would be DJ Low Key. Low Key has been involved in hip-hop mixtapes with everyone from Che Grand, Tanya Morgan, TiRon and Median. He also dropped The Solution Tape #1 mixtape, done with his partner DJ Sound Supreme to honor the weekly spot him and Supreme spin at every Friday night in Denver. He has also been Tanya Morgan’s tour DJ in the past. This former Basmentalism DJ is on the rise not just in Denver, but nationwide.

Saturdays from 2-9PM until it starts snowing -> Goodness w/DJ Low Key & friends, El Chingon tacos & more on the Meadowlark’s patio…

Saturdays from 2-9PM -> For the last few weeks, people have been asking nonstop about my plans for Goodness w/DJ Low Key & friends as the weather gets colder.  The answer has pretty much been the same; “we’ll figure it out when Fall gets here”.  Well now that Fall is officially here, it’s time for an update.  Here’s the details:
1. In case you missed the announcement last weekend, we’re moving Goodness back to Saturday afternoons for the rest of the season for a few reasons, primarily because of Bronco/Peyton-mania, but also for an extra special Goodness event on Saturday, 10/6 (stay tuned for details, coming real soon) and more.
2. This weekend’s forecast calls for 74 degrees and sunshine on Saturday and next weekend is looking even hotter.  With that said, the party is going to continue on until it gets “too cold”, which is still probably 4-6 weeks or so away.
3. I’m also working on a few other cool new concepts for this Fall/Winter, so add me on facebook, follow me on twitter, catch me on tumblr, join the e-mail list at the top right corner of this page, etc so you can stay in the loop from here on out.
So just to reiterate, don’t miss Autumn Goodness w/DJ Low Key & friends, tacos by El Chingon and more on the Meadowlark’s ridiculous patio (2701 Larimer St) until the weather gets too cold.  Stay tuned to djlowkey.com & @Feel_Goodness on twitter for more info on the party and special events as we make the most out of the next month or so of nice weather.  Also, be on the lookout for a few cool weather specials as the Fall makes it’s presence more felt over the next few weeks. ‘Round Midnight is being sold & because of that, The Solution Boulder is going on hiatus /// Win free Theophilus London at the Fox tickets, courtesy of me & The Solution…

Pretty simple situation.  Two days ago, I got word that ‘Round Midnight, the home of The Solution Boulder, was in the process of being sold to new ownership and because of that they were going to be closed indefinitely.  I was always a fan of Chuck, Pinks, Aaron & the rest of the ‘Round midnight crew and hate to see them end their run in Boulder, but I also know sometimes you gotta sell, especially when you’re sitting on prime real estate like they are on Pearl St.  I don’t know if/when they’ll be reopening or if we’ll continue throwing The Solution Boulder there or anywhere else in Boulder at the moment.

Right now, my focus is on the monthly Solution Showcase and the smash hit of the Summer, Goodness (going til October), down in Denver, as well as a variety of other projects (some of which will be taking place in Boulder), so I’m going to take a break in regards to The Solution Boulder.  So don’t worry hip hop heads, me, DJ Dozen, B-Money, Sounds Supreme & crew will continue to bring CO all the best in hip hop & more on a regular basis, so stay tuned to djlowkey.com, denversolution.com & my twitter page for more upcoming events.

SUNDAY, 8/12 from 2-9PM -> Last week was the busiest yet (check the pic below) and the rave reviews keep coming in about how great the vibe at Goodness is, with everyone from randoms who lucked out and found us to Denver culture blogs to die-hard music heads saying it’s their favorite party of the Summer.  This week we’re back at it a with a Hawaiian twist.  Now I’m gonna be honest, my original plan, back before we partnered with El Chingon, was to have a pig roast and luau on 8/12.  I clung on to that idea as things got more and more complicated while trying to make it happen and ultimately, I had steer away from the idea when we learned that due to health code regulations, we wouldn’t be able to roast the pig on-site.  Never one to be held down, I worked with El Chingon’s Chef David Lopez to put together some delicious Hawaiian-inspired taco specials, along with pineapple and mango agua frescas, which is probably the next best thing to a pig roast in keeping with the Hawaiiian theme (and it also doesn’t scare vegetarians quite like a roasted pig’s head…LOL).

Beyond the Hawaiian food and drinks, I’ll be joined on your afternoon’s soundtrack by two very dope cats who I’ve never really had a chance to rock with, but always wanted to; DJ Wushu (Bass Crooks) & Kid Hum (Fossil Fuel Music).  Also, in keeping with the Hawaiian theme, we’re gonna give $25 in tacos and drinks to the person with the best Hawaiian shirt on, so come dressed proper and end up full with a nice buzz on us.  The misters will be keeping us refreshed, the music will be beautiful & the vibe bordering magic on the Meadowlark’s beautiful patio (2701 Larimer St), so come join us.  21+/No Cover.

The Solution Showcase #8 update aka we’ll catch y’all on 8/25 + Catch Theo Martins (LA) & more for free at Goodness on 7/29…

So here we are, close to the 4th Saturday of the month and still barely a mention of The Solution Showcase #8…What gives?  Here’s what happened, due to a miscommunication between the Meadowlark and a charity event that was original scheduled for 7/28 (the date The Solution Showcase #8 was originally set for), the venue ended up being double-booked for a significant portion of the time that we’d be throwing the event.  Not being the type to argue with a charity, we decided to postpone the Solution Showcase for the month of July, but that’s not the interesting part of the story.

Here’s where it gets interesting. I had already booked the planned out of town guest for The Solution Showcase #8, Okayplayer favorite and Los Angeles-based, Providence-bred MC/DJ Theo Martins before getting the news and, having a great relationship with the Meadowlark & Red Bull, they offered to cover the costs of bringing him out so we added him to the lineup for Goodness on Sunday, 7/29 (I hope you already know about Goodness, my new weekly Sunday afternoon party on the Meadowlark’s beautiful patio /// 2701 Larimer St).

So now you can catch Theo Martins, rapping and spinning, as well as the original planned lineup for Goodness; myself, Denver legend DJ Chonz, the very dope and highly slept-on DJ Ear Attent and guest hosts Jessica Simmons (the infamous Solution bartender) and man about town DenverFrank in celebrating the 4 year anniversary of his infamous Denver culture blog, DenverFrank.net.  The lineup is stacked and in Goodness tradition, there’s no cover, so come on down for what promises to be a great day (and a good chance to win a Frank151 Denver Diggers hat). Every Sunday Night from 9PM-Close -> After Goodness ends on Sunday evenings at 9pm, the party moves down the street to Tryst (1512 Larimer St) for Fifty/50 with DJ Low Key & bartender Jessica Simmons (aka the official Solution bartender, who we used to say was more popular than us…LOL).  Fifty/50 features $2 canned beers for everybody, 50% off entire tabs for service industry employees and free shots for everybody at the bar for every 50 drinks sold!!!  That’s probably the best service industry specials I’ve ever seen, you already know the music will be on-point and Jessica serves up drinks with a smile and a little shit talking better than any bartender in Denver. SUNDAY, 7/22 from 2-9PM -> Last month I asked my Radio Bums brethren, the ‘now retired from DJing to focus on his culinary endeavors’ Chef David Lopez aka DJ Psycho to come out of retirement to do guest spot at Goodness and that conversation somehow magically snowballed into the blessing of us having El Chingon tacos at the party every Sunday, all Summer.  That was one of the biggest wins of 2012, but there was no way I was gonna let any DJ as good as Psycho spend the whole Summer behind the grill.  So with that said, he’ll be stepping back behind the turntables, as well preparing special one day only menu (!!!!!) for the El Chingon Taco Takeover at Goodness on the Meadowlark’s patio (2701 Larimer St).

One of the things I wanted to do with Goodness was to match up great guest DJs who haven’t had a chance to spin together at the party, so I reached out to another renowned Colorado DJ, the one and only DJ B-Money to complete the lineup.  Me and B Money were talking about Goodness at The Solution Boulder a few weeks ago and next thing you know, we’ve got our homies, the very talented and acclaimed artists Casey Bolding & Kegan Black coming in to do some live art for y’all.  Between all that and the Meadowlark’s new mister system (a HUGE win this time of year), the party should leave all of your senses smiling. 21+/No Cover.

And oh yeah, and we officially added another hour to the party since we had been busy and going til 9PM both other Sundays anyway.  We do have to wrap up the party around 9 though, due to noise restrictions in the neighborhood.  For all the service industry types and party people looking to rock past 9PM, I’ll be announcing a fresh new Sunday night party very soon too.

P.S. The turnouts have been great every week and we’ve been loving the vibe y’all bring to the building for Goodness.  Outside of The Solution, I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in a party with so many smiling faces; it’s an amazing thing and I wanna thank everybody who’s been coming out for being a part of that.  Besides just me, all the DJs who’ve been coming through say you guys are great, everybody from El Chingon says the same thing and the Meadowlark’s been loving you too, so thank you for your support.  The rest of this Summer is just gonna get better, so stay tuned for more Summertime Goodness.

El Chingon Mexican Bistro x Goodness Menu for Sunday, 7/8/12 at the Meadowlark…Tacos De Pato is the special this week, Camarones Chingones are back & a new vegetarian option!

Menu for SUNDAY, 7/8 -> I said it before and I’ll say it again, Goodness teaming up with El Chingon is an epic food win for everybody involved.  At our first party together last month, Chef David Lopez (aka DJ Psycho) and crew sold a few hundred tacos on the Meadowlark’s patio (2701 Larimer St), adding a ton of new fans to the Cult of Chingon and taking the party to the next level.  This week’s menu subs in the wildly popular Camarones Chingones (jumbo shrimp) tacos for Carne Molida (ground beef) tacos as a permanent menu item, adds a vegetarian option with the Tacos Fresco and features Tacos De Pato (roasted duck!!!) as the special.  After inhaling a pair of delicious Carnitas Tacos and a pair of excellent Camarones Chingones Tacos last time around, I can’t wait wait to try the rest of the menu and start picking favorites.
