Wednesday, 11/27 -> POURTY w/DJ Low Key & The Color Dark, special guests BLKHRTS, CRL CRRLL and Plat Maravich & more at Beauty Bar Denver on Thanksgiving Eve!!!

WEDNESDAY, 11/27 -> Excited to launch a new party concept called POURTY (pronounced like party but extra hype, like it has “!!!” at the end) with the one and only Yonnas Abraham of tfBLKHRTS fame aka The Color Dark.  We’ll be kicking things off on Thanksgiving Eve, the sleeper club holiday where everyone goes out because no one has anything important to do the next day, except eat, drink & watch football.  BLKHRTS, CRL CRLL & Plat Maravich will also be at Beauty Bar, rocking live performances within the party.  We’re not stopping the party for the performances though, at POURTY we’re only having cats rock straight up JAMS within the party, on some classic era MC & DJ hip hop shit.  With that said, POURTY isn’t just a hip hop party by any means, catch us rocking everything exceptional in music, from The Cure to Cashmere Cat, Kendrick Lamar to Prince, Sizzla to Thundercat (you get the picture, right?).  Expect intense fun at Beauty Bar Denver (608 E. 13th St), starting at 9pm / 21+ / No cover until 10pm, only $5 after.

Friday, 11/22 -> Come donate a toy to low income children at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez for no cover all night long, Michael Coriano Art Of Records III stickers & more at the Meadowlark!!! Still no cover before 11 though!!!

FRIDAY, 11/22 -> It’s been a great year at The Solution in 2013 and right on time for the big holiday season, we’re excited to give back some by helping collect new, unwrapped gifts to donate low income children via Hope Communities, an organization that provides low income housing and services to refugees and immigrants in the Denver area.  We’ll be partying as usual at The Solution, with award-winning DJs Low Key & Lazy Eyez rocking on the turntables (4 best hip hop DJ in Denver awards between them!), no cover til 11 and such, but if you bring a present we’ll waive the cover for you and a guest if you show up after 11 and send you home with a nice little gift or two from us (something like a super high quality Michael Coriano Art Of Records III Ink Monstr sticker, a Solution magnet for your fridge, mixtape, etc).  It doesn’t need to be anything extravagant, you don’t need to wrap it and half the crowd shows up after 11 on a given Friday anyway; might as well put that cover money to better use and bring a small gift for needy child, everybody ends up better off that way!!!  Party photos by Knower Of The Ledge at IG: @DenverSolution / 2701 Larimer St / 9pm / 21+ / No cover until 11, only $5 after without a present.

P.S.  This is just the first of a few different events we’re involved in to help the community this holiday season, stay tuned for more ways to join us in having fun while helping good causes through the winter!!!

FRIDAY, 11/15 -> We’re excited to welcome our good friend and touring DJ extraordinaire Trackstar The DJ.  He’s Killer Mike & El-P aka Run The Jewels’s official DJ, a member of The Smoking Section crew and an infamous mixtape technician, he’ll be joining Solution residents DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez on the turntables for what promises to be a great night.  Solution photographer Knower Of The Ledge will be taking party photos, things kick off at 9pm and there’s no cover til 11 (only $5 after).  2701 Larimer St / 21+.

Saturday, 11/9 -> The legendary DJ Chris Karns, special guests DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme, 4 turntables, free PBRs from 9-10pm & more at Beauty Bar Denver!!!

SATURDAY, 11/9 -> Honored that one of the best DJs in history (no exaggeration), DJ Chris Karns, has invited me and another of my favorites, DJ Sounds Supreme, to rock with him at his new monthly at Beauty Bar Denver.  If you’re not familiar with DJ Chris Karns (fka DJ Vajra), this party will be an excellent time to see why the unquestionable “DJ’s DJ” has won the DMC World Championship, as well as finished top three in both the Red Bull Thre3 Style US Finals and on VH1’s Master Of The Mix TV show (most DJs I know believe he got robbed in the final round but that’s another story…LOL), all while inspiring hundreds of thousands of DJs around the planet.  All this might sound like hyperbole, but after watching Chris teach DJ legends like DJ Q-Bert & DJ Craze techniques he created and burn down clubs with Michael Jordan-like determination to be the best, I’m convinced he’s truly one of the greatest DJs of all-time.

And fuck it, even if I’m wrong or you don’t agree, you’re still catching, me, Chris and Sounds Supreme, with an hour of free PBRs from 9-10pm to get the night going, for the low low price of only $7.  Rock with us Denver, you’ll be glad you did.  Beauty Bar (608 E. 13th St) / 9pm / 21+.

Friday, 11/8 at 7pm -> The Art Of Records III: Enter The Marauders at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez! 20 years to the week since Midnight Marauders & Enter The Wu-Tang dropped, we celebrate two of hip hop’s best albums & their legendary artwork at the Meadowlark!!!

FRIDAY, 11/8 at 7pm -> The Art Of Records is like Christmas to us.  We invite a dozen or so of our favorite Denver artists to take classic hip hop album & 12″ single record covers and re-imagine them in their own style and when we finally get to see all their work, it’s like walking down the stairs on Christmas morning to see all sorts of presents under the tree.  The first two shows, co-curated by Dunn the Signtologist & DJ Low Key, blew us away with artists flipping everything from Dilla to Public Enemy to Quasimoto albums into a variety of masterpieces (check the links below for thorough recaps).

For our third Art Of Records, we’re celebrating a landmark occasion; the 20th anniversary of two of hip hop’s all-time best albums, A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders & Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which both, through the magic of the 90s Golden Era in NY, were released on the same Tuesday, 11/9/1993.  We’re not just having the artists flip the album covers alone though, both albums features impressive artwork on the 12″ singles for the likes of “Electric Relaxation”, “Protect Ya Neck” & such that are ripe inspiration for the show at the Meadowlark.

The Art Of Records III: Enter The Marauders Artist Lineup:

We’re starting things early at 7pm to showcase the art in full light, then at 10pm, we’re going into afterparty mode at The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Lazy Eyez to close out the night.  We’ll also have Solution photographer extraordinaire Knower Of The Ledge in the house, so make sure to pose for him and keep an eye out for pictures on the new Solution Instagram page & on our Facebook page.  Last but not least, it’s also our homegirl Adrian’s birthday party, so if you see the brunette in this pic rocking to a Prince or Vanity 6 song like she’s straight from the video later in the evening, wish her a happy birthday & buy her a drink!  21+/No cover until 11/Only $5 after/2701 Larimer St.

More about The Art Of Records: Over the last few decades album art has gone from a 12” canvases to a 2” screens, and that’s usually the best-case scenario for the often incredible art that accompanies music releases.  Landmark albums like Eric B & Rakim’s Paid In Full, Nas’s Illmatic and De La Soul is Dead have instantly recognizable covers that are embedded in music and art lovers’ psyches forever, but the 12” as a canvas has become a rarity in the public eye.  Everyone from music and art lovers to average people on the street still connect to both the album art and 12” format, yet we rarely take the time to honor the truly great ones.  The Art Of Records is an exhibit that aims to do just that; focusing on the legacy of exceptional art accompanying exceptional music and the idea of introducing both to a new generation.

The Art Of Records combines art, music and tradition to celebrate and honor the rich history and mystique of record cover art, 12″ vinyl and the artists that create it (both musically and graphically). Curated by DJ Low Key & Dunn the Signtologist, the exhibit features a series of classic 12″ album and single covers re-imagined and recreated by top artists in Denver.  The 12” covers will also be on display and the concept comes full circle with DJ Low Key playing an all vinyl set of the featured records to get the night started.
