Goodbye Hapa Life…Hello new soul and R&B night…

After almost two years of great evenings and dope soul/r&b music, Hapa Life w/DJ Low Key is a wrap.  In case you missed it on my twitter/facebook a few day back, there’s been a change in management at Hapa Sushi in Cherry Creek and the new manager isn’t interested in a DJ being there any more.  It’s as simple as that.  I can’t say that I’m excited, especially since the only reason there’s a new manager is because the previous one got a new job and not because of a problem with what was going on.  It is what it is though, that’s life.

That being said, I’m not here to complain or throw a fit; you can expect me to pop up with a new party along the same lines (food & R&B/soul music) sometime soon.  I’ve seen lot of fantastic nights (things like this, this, this & this) with the night’s concept and I’m not gonna let a change in management and their ideas about things deprive us of what we were enjoying every Sunday night…LOL.

Expect a new DJ Low Key soul/R&B night to be announced in the near future, please sign up for my e-mail list (by clicking HERE) for more news on the new nights, plus free mixtapes, MP3s, upcoming special event info, contests & more.  P.S. If you’re really disappointed in Hapa ending the night, there is always Yelp.com.

RBMA season returns!!! Apply for the Red Bull Music Academy Tokyo between now & April 4th…Details below…

UPDATE: The Red Bull Music Academy 2011 will not be held in Tokyo. The new location to be announced April 11. Also, application deadline extended to 4/26.

In their own words, “The Red Bull Music Academy brings talented souls from around the globe together to make music and swap wisdom.  For the past 12 years, the Red Bull Music Academy has been traveling the world, to give music makers of all stripes a whopping dose of creative inspiration: two weeks of recording sessions, workshops, lectures by musical luminaries, and unforgettable late night jams. This year, the destination is Tokyo, and all producers, vocalists, DJs, and instrumentalists are invited to apply. The only necessary requirement? Drive.”

With that philosophy, the Red Bull Music Academy has accumulated an unprecedented wealth of music knowledge, fostered a long list of unexpected collaborations and built a storied history of lecturers and participants.  Over the last four years I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the Red Bull Music Academy as Colorado’s sole representative.  With that said, I’ll be running an info session for locals interested in the program with a very special guest or two in March, throwing an On The Floor event that’ll end up on RedBullMusicAcademyRadio.com and, most importantly, answering any questions you might have about the program itself and helping local musicians/DJs/vocalists/producers/etc complete everything for their applications.

So whether you’re in Colorado or not, feel free to hit me up with any questions about the program at questions[at]djlowkey[dot]com and I’ll be happy to help clarify how things work.  You can also find more info at facebook.com/RedBullMusicAcademy, at twitter.com/RBMA & the downloadable info booklet below.  Then from there, download the application form, grab a snack and give yourself a big chunk of time to get started filling it out (think of it as a musical scholarship application; because like all things especially worthwhile, it’s going to take some effort).

Last but not least, here’s links to a dozen of my favorite in-depth lectures featured at RedBullMusicAcademy.com to give you a taste of how deep the learning goes, check out the site for hundreds more and RedBullMusicAcademyRadio.com for thousands of podcasts, live shows, interviews & more.

A New Year + New Music + 2 Award Winning DJs – The Bullshit = The Solution…Every Friday in 2011…

Friday, 12/31 -> The Solution goes back to the future for New Year’s Eve…

Friday, 12/17 -> Introducing DJ Lazy Eyez…Please welcome him to the Solution…

Every Friday Starting 12/17 -> Best Hip Hop DJ Award Winner, Radio 1190 GM, Basementalism host.  DJ Lazy Eyez has held a lot of titles in his over the last decade.  You may have seen him opening for the Roots, Mos Def, De La Soul or Rakim, rocking at some of the biggest b-boy events in the state or spinning at clubs all along the front range.  Every step of the way, he’s been an advocate for quality music and hip hop culture, not to mention one of the coolest motherfuckers I know.  I’m sure most of the people checking the site are familiar with his work, but if not, please head over to DJLazyEyez.com to find out more about my new partner at the Solution.  Sounds could never be replaced, but we both feel like Lazy is the best man to help carry on the Solution’s tradition and an all around good dude.  I’m excited to hear him spin every Friday night and I already know y’all are gonna love him if you don’t already.  – DJ Low Key

The flip side to Lazy Eyez joining the Solution is that Sounds Supreme will be taking a step back.  Sounds is a one of a kind guy and a hell of a DJ, and this isn’t a situation where Lazy is replacing Sounds by any means; it’s just not possible.  As Sounds focuses on other endeavors, the door is still open and you can expect him to show up for special events at the Solution from time to time (plus there’s been some talk of a DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme monthly too).  The Solution’s gonna miss you Sounds, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing you at some point in 2011.  In the meantime, stay tuned to DJSoundsSupreme.com for more info on what Sounds is up to.
