UPDATE: The Red Bull Music Academy 2011 will not be held in Tokyo. The new location to be announced April 11. Also, application deadline extended to 4/26.
REMINDER: The application deadline is Monday, 4/4. Your application needs to be postmarked April 4th and I’m gonna go ahead and post the link to the 24 hour post office (7500 E. 53rd Place) for anyone ends up cutting it extra close now, I know a few people who needed it last year…LOL. Also, if you personally get me your application by Sunday, 4/3 we’ll pay to mail it to Europe (the headquarters of the Academy) on your behalf.
Everything below is a repost from February, but I wanna make sure Colorado (and the everyone else) knows about this great opportunity. Anyone with questions please hit me up at justin[at]redbullmusicacademy{dot}com.
In their own words, “The Red Bull Music Academy brings talented souls from around the globe together to make music and swap wisdom. For the past 12 years, the Red Bull Music Academy has been traveling the world, to give music makers of all stripes a whopping dose of creative inspiration: two weeks of recording sessions, workshops, lectures by musical luminaries, and unforgettable late night jams. This year, the destination is Tokyo, and all producers, vocalists, DJs, and instrumentalists are invited to apply. The only necessary requirement? Drive.”
With that philosophy, the Red Bull Music Academy has accumulated an unprecedented wealth of music knowledge, fostered a long list of unexpected collaborations and built a storied history of lecturers and participants. Over the last four years I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the Red Bull Music Academy as Colorado’s sole representative. With that said, I’ll be running an info session for locals interested in the program with a very special guest or two in March, throwing an On The Floor event that’ll end up on RedBullMusicAcademyRadio.com and, most importantly, answering any questions you might have about the program itself and helping local musicians/DJs/vocalists/producers/etc complete everything for their applications.
So whether you’re in Colorado or not, feel free to hit me up with any questions about the program at justin[at]redbullmusicacademy{dot}com and I’ll be happy to help clarify how things work. You can also find more info at facebook.com/RedBullMusicAcademy, at twitter.com/RBMA & the downloadable info booklet below. Then from there, download the application form, grab a snack and give yourself a big chunk of time to get started filling it out (think of it as a musical scholarship application; because like all things especially worthwhile, it’s going to take some effort).
Last but not least, here’s links to a dozen of my favorite in-depth lectures featured at RedBullMusicAcademy.com to give you a taste of how deep the learning goes, check out the site for hundreds more and RedBullMusicAcademyRadio.com for thousands of podcasts, live shows, interviews & more.
Monday, 3/14 -> Red Bull Music Academy presents The Foreign Exchange (Phonte + Nicolay) and DJ Low Key at Summit Music Hall…
MONDAY, 3/14 -> I’m ridiculously proud and excited that this show is happening. I’ve been a huge fan and supporter of Nicolay, Phonte and the whole Foreign Exchange Music since they first all linked up on Okayplayer’s infamous message board, the Lesson (right around the same time as Tanya Morgan actually, if you don’t know the story, catch up here), and I’ve wanted to get them out to Denver for a proper show for years. However, them traveling with a full band makes for a pricey show and up until this year, I wasn’t quite sure how to to make it happen. Then, 2011 came and with it, came the return of the Red Bull Music Academy, the esteemed music program that I’m fortunate to work with as Denver’s sole rep and also a program that has featured both Phonte and Nicolay as guest lecturers (check them here and here). From there, we just connected the dots and last Friday inked the paperwork to make it official; Grammy-nominated group, The Foreign Exchange, is making their Denver debut at Summit Music Hall on Monday, 3/14, courtesy of the one and only Red Bull Music Academy.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Red Bull Music Academy is blessing the first 100 people to RSVP at RBMA[at]DenverSolution{dot}com with complimentary admission to the show and keeping the ticket prices for everyone else at the low, low price of only $10 (normally an FE show cost $25+ for a ticket). The Foreign Exchange is amazing, the tickets are a steal and you already know I’m gonna come correct on the opening set; don’t miss it!!! All ages /// Doors at 8 (this is not the event to show up late to) /// 1902 Blake St /// RedBullMusicAcademy.com for more info on the program (especially musicians, producers, vocalists, etc) /// The event will also be recorded for RedBullMusicAcademyRadio.com /// $10 Pre-sales available at SodaJerkPresents.com.

From DenverSolution.com: FRIDAY, 2/18 -> If you know him, you’ve probably said it yourself; “Fuck F.O.E.!!!â€. With that said, King F.O.E., the renowned Denver MC who’s known for being blunt is embracing the screams of “Fuck F.O.E.†for his new mixtape and taking over the Solution and Shag Lounge (15th & Champa downtown) on Friday, February 18th for national #FuckFOEFriday. Not only is F.O.E. releasing his highly anticipated mixtape with Denver’s DJ Ear Attent for #FuckFOEFriday, but he’s also going to be launching KingFOE.com, releasing his collaborative album with Qknox (of Girlgrabbers fame) and celebrating all the enemies he’s fathered by hosting the Solution and featuring a design project with exclusive giveaways from Denver Frank, Urban Nerd & Jkat Designs. Don’t miss what stands to be a hell of a party and follow @KingFOE and PopularLemonade.com for more updates on the party and releases.
UPDATE: After 4 months, a bunch of great nights and multiple bounced checks from 3014 (while the “owner†was on vacation in Mexico at that), we have parted ways with the venue. We hate to have to move the party again, but trust, it was necessary and wherever we permanently end up, we’ll continue the award-winning party that you’ve come to know and love. Thanks Denver, sorry for any confusion and hopefully we’ll see you for national #FuckFOEFriday at Shag on 2/18.

Friday, 12/17 -> Introducing DJ Lazy Eyez…Please welcome him to the Solution…
Every Friday Starting 12/17 -> Best Hip Hop DJ Award Winner, Radio 1190 GM, Basementalism host. DJ Lazy Eyez has held a lot of titles in his over the last decade. You may have seen him opening for the Roots, Mos Def, De La Soul or Rakim, rocking at some of the biggest b-boy events in the state or spinning at clubs all along the front range. Every step of the way, he’s been an advocate for quality music and hip hop culture, not to mention one of the coolest motherfuckers I know. I’m sure most of the people checking the site are familiar with his work, but if not, please head over to DJLazyEyez.com to find out more about my new partner at the Solution. Sounds could never be replaced, but we both feel like Lazy is the best man to help carry on the Solution’s tradition and an all around good dude. I’m excited to hear him spin every Friday night and I already know y’all are gonna love him if you don’t already. – DJ Low Key
The flip side to Lazy Eyez joining the Solution is that Sounds Supreme will be taking a step back. Sounds is a one of a kind guy and a hell of a DJ, and this isn’t a situation where Lazy is replacing Sounds by any means; it’s just not possible. As Sounds focuses on other endeavors, the door is still open and you can expect him to show up for special events at the Solution from time to time (plus there’s been some talk of a DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme monthly too). The Solution’s gonna miss you Sounds, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing you at some point in 2011. In the meantime, stay tuned to DJSoundsSupreme.com for more info on what Sounds is up to.

Friday, 10/15 -> The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme moves to 3014!!!
FRIDAY, 10/15 -> Me & Sounds Supreme are excited to announce that we’re settled on a great long-term home for the best club night in Denver aka the Solution, at 3014. 3014 is a dope spot at 3014 E. Colfax Ave, a block east and across the street from the Bluebird Theatre, in a cool part of town where you’ll find all sorts of interesting stuff, including our friends the Shoppe (cupcakes & other treats), Plastic Chapel (collectible toys a la Kid Robot) and an assortment of boutiques, salons and dispensaries. The venue has good sound, tasty food served all night long, a nice heated rooftop patio and we’ll be bringing our infamous bartender, Jess, along with us to complete the move (she’s the third member of the Solution, did you expect anything less?). Our good friends over at Family Affair and Frank151 have helped us stock some gift bags for the 50 people to come in and you already know we’re gonna come extra correct with the music after our summer break. $3 Stellas & $4 Jager Bombs all night. 21+/No cover/Music at 9.
