Friday, 2/6 -> The Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme celebrates 2 years…You don’t wanna miss this…

FRIDAY, 2/6 -> It’s hard to believe that over a hundred Fridays have gone by since me & the infamous Sounds Supreme branched out from the “regular” club scene to start the kind of party we’d wanna go to back in February 2007.  We named the party the Solution and since then, every week’s been a beautiful mix of the best hip hop, exceptional people & great drinks (mainly courtesy of our longtime bartender Jessica, the “third member of the Solution”).  Well with our two year birthday coming on 2/6, we’re going all out to celebrate with a Solution cake courtesy of the Shoppe, art from Dunn the Street Sign Artist & more, photographers from the Westword, Red Bull Wings girls, mad drink specials & some crazy gift bags (details below).

It’s been a busy two years.  We’ve played host to a variety of out of town guests from Blu to Median to Tanya Morgan to the Kidz in the Hall to Che Grand to Mickey Factz & more.  We had some of CO’s best DJs, from Vajra to Chonz to Psycho to Bedz to Amen, spin guest sets & wanna plan their next guest spot before the night ends. We’ve thrown a J Dilla tribute for Ma Dukes with Stones Throw, a couple of chicken & waffles parties to honor the west coast, showings from some of Denver’s best artists, fashion shows with Akomplice & that’s just a few of the fun things that you might have missed if you haven’t been coming out every week.  There’s quite a few reasons Common called us “the real hip hop in Denver” and we were named “Best Hip Hop Night” in the Westword’s 2008 “Best of Denver” issue (don’t forget to vote for us in ’09).

But really though, the Solution’s not about us, it’s about you, the people who come out every week and support.  Everyone from heads who come by after working a ten hour day to fly ass girls who know the words Camp Lo songs to “nerds” who saw us mentioned on blogs to off duty go go dancers to some of the best DJs in town (y’all got us running around calling the Solution “your favorite DJs favorite party”, excuse our cockiness). With that said, we’ve collected a ton of giveaways from most of the companies we’ve worked with over the last few years. Akomplice, Frank151, Family Affair, Speakeasy, Avenue, Estate LA, Lard, Counter Act Ltd, Stones Throw, Mad Decent, IM Culture (home of Tanya Morgan) & even the homie Nicolay laced us and we’ve made gift bags for y’all to show our gratitude. RSVP to questions@djlowkey.com to reserve yours.  776 Lincoln / 21+ / No Cover / Music at 9 & come early, the spot’s normally packed & this Friday is gonna be extra extra.

P.S. Don’t miss Fantastic #3, the Solution’s third annual tribute to J Dilla on 2/27, plus stay tuned for Twitter.com/DenverSolution, DenverSolution.com & The Solution Mixtape #1 coming soon…

COStandUp.com interview w/DJ Low Key…

A new Colorado hip hop blog called COStandUp.com recently hit me up to be their debut interview, they’ve been promoting the site heavily over the last few months and from the looks of things, it’s off the good start.  Here’s a taste of the interview, check out the rest at COStandUp.com:

First things first, I’d like to introduce myself as a new author for COStandUp.com. I’m known by many as Miss Rachel, and I used to co-host for Basementalism / Radio 1190. I also acted as the promotions and events coordinator for the show as well, which has lead me to many great friendships and working relationships with many members of the Colorado hip hop community and beyond. My main focus is to continue to support the scene, as well as break you all off with artists, djs, and other performers you may or may not know about.

DJ Low Key was gracious enough to let me flex my interviewing skills as my first writing piece for COStandUp.com. If you don’t know who DJ Low Key is around these parts, there’s a pretty good chance you have been living under a rock. With past residencies at Club Vinyl, Bar Luxe, and many other watering holes and dance floors around the front range as well as a member of the Radio Bums, DJ Low Key is definitely one of the up and coming djs within the Colorado music scene. In 2008, Westword voted him ‘Hip Hop DJ of the Year.”

Miss Rachel: Who do you get mistaken for more often: DJ Bedz or DJ Vajra?

DJ Low Key: (laughs)…I heard all white boys all look the same.

Miss Rachel: What sets you apart from other DJs in Colorado?

DJ Low Key: I try to only throw/DJ parties that I’d wanna go to. There’s a lot of great DJs in Colorado (and beyond) doing great things, but a lot of the time they’re not doing what they really want to be doing. What I’ve tried to do over the last few years is just support the kind of music/events/etc that I’m into, not necessarily the kind of stuff I think any average person on the street might like. It’s paid off; there’s definitely a lot of people out there on the same page as I am, it just takes a little more effort to link up with them. Over time, I think I’ve started to carve out a decent niche for myself doing something a little different.

Shouts to COStandUp.com & Miss Rachel for hitting me up, check out the rest of the interview at COStandUp.com

Tanya Morgan, me & Aeon took over XM Radio before Sirius did…Check us out on Subsoniq…

Last summer, the day before the XM/Sirius merger, TM, me & Aeon all recorded an episode of Subsoniq Radio while we were in DC on the Hiero tour.  With the merger shaking things up, the episode didn’t get to air as scheduled this summer and just aired last week, here’s the MP3 links in case you missed it.

We talked about the tour, the TM/88 Keys collabs, TM’s acclaimed Bridge EP & a lot more, and Subsoniq officially premiered Aeon’s ridiculous Wale “Good Girls” remix.  Also, make sure you stay tuned to Subsoniq Radio w/Doc & KB, it’s one of the best hip hop shows on the air (and shouts to the homie Nate Geezie too).

Congrats on the great week Che…

In the words of Che Grand (of Che Grand & DJ Low Key – Limited Edition:The Fixtape fame) “wait wait, this bum ass nigga got a joint w/ Jay Elec (that shit aint real son), a post from Kanye and a beat from Illmind all in one week? say word? GET HIM!”…LOL…Congrats on the great week homie, it’s well deserved.

The definition of variety, ’nuff said…LOL…

Shouts to Ms. Badu & 8thW1, they’re the shit…On the other hand, Eli Porter rap battles are fascinating for a whole different reason…LMAO…
