Denver Red Bull Big Tune Recap…Congrats to Boon Doc & DJ Psycho…
A couple of weeks ago, Red Bull Big Tune hit Denver and 700+ heads came out to see a dozen of the best beat-makers in town compete head to head on the beats at Beta. My fellow Radio Bums and occasional Solution guest features DJ Vajra & DJ Psycho, internet sensation Boon Doc, recent Westword cover feature Yonnas of the Pirate Signal, Xperiment of Educated Figures and sometimes Whygee collaborator Good Knight were amongst the producers competing at the Denver stop of the premier producer showcase/battle in the country.
In between the rounds, producer’s producer Exile rocked a live MPC set that blew the crowd away and Black Milk got love for an animated performance, but the focus of the night was clearly on the competing producers. Throughout the night, Boon Doc showed why his youtube videos have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times with crisp, bangin’ beats and great melodies that took out everyone he faced. The level of competition was thick throughout the night and ultimately DJ Psycho beat out Vajra to make it to the finals to face Boon Doc. Psycho came with it, but Boonie’s beats were just too nice and he took the title. Both Psycho and Boon Doc will be heading to ATL this fall to rep Denver and compete for the national Big Tune title, good luck guys. Speaking of luck, I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of helping Red Bull organize/promote/produce the event and I gotta admit, the event went better than anybody had hoped for. The field of talent was great, the crowd was mad enthusiastic & a good time was had by all. Thanks for supporting some quality iddish Colorado, I’m proud of us for reppin’ so hard. Last but not least, these pics are from the Public Works Blog, check it out for more.

Donwill as Don Cusack in High Fidelity tracklist…Check track 5…
Donwill of Tanya Morgan has a dope new project he’s working on. It’s called Don Cusack in High Fidelity, check out the tracklist below. As far as what the album’s about, I’ll let him tell it:
The album ‘Don Cusack in High Fidelity‘ is a remake of the movie ‘High Fidelity‘ (starring John Cusack). It is one of my favorite movies of all times. I feel that the movie has alot of parallel’s to my personal life, so many that I’ve decided to cast myself in the role of Rob Gordon (Cusack’s character) for the duration of this project.
And here: Don Cusack is almost done and in honor of letting people in on the process to sneak a glimpse at the work in progress I put together a short snippet tape. You know just so you can see where I’m at and help motivate me to finish this damn thing. Its not all the songs from the album or nothing like that, just 5 of the joints that were the most finished.
As for the project being done, who knows. Sometime soon tho so that I can start finish my work with Von Pea and Brickbeats. More than anything it just needs to be mixed down at this point and there are a few people im still waiting on to finish a few songs but I wont name names… YET!
So here we go! The bold joints are the ones that are on the snippet tape. I didnt wanna give TOO much away but I wanted to let yall hear something. I decided to include the tracklist as it stands right now including features and producers for people who are into that sort of thing. Oh and the album is split into 2 parts. If that doesnt make sense then you dont know me or this project at all. Regardless I will be explaining it at a later date. Just enjoy this for now…

Saturday, 7/4 -> Kid Hum Records Release Party at So Damn Down w/DJ Low Key at Shag w/special guests Kid Hum, Whygee, Sunkenstate, B-Money & brikAbrak
SATURDAY, 7/4 -> Kid Hum dropped some of the best Colorado hip hop records to date over the last year (the CMJ charts & over 50,000+ downloads seems to agree) and in my humble opinion, there wasn’t enough fanfare for the releases. So I decided to call the homie Hum the other day and see what he’d like to do to promote his music, next thing you know we’d put together a “Kid Hum Records Release Party” at So Damn Down at Shag (830 15th St) for both Fossil Fuel and Offshore Drilling featuring performances from some of CO’s finest, including Whygee, Sunkenstate, B-Money, brikAbrak and of course, Kid Hum himself, plus some other surprises. The party is free, the lineup is thick & when have I steered you wrong before? See you there. No cover / 21+ / Music at 10.
P.S. If you haven’t already, download Fossil Fuel, Offshore Drilling & Suicide Watch for free right now & get up on Kid Hum’s music, you’ll be glad you did.
