I don’t usually talk about the shows I go to…

But I gotta mention last week’s ridiculous Rakim/Ghostface/Brother Ali show (props to DJ Styles & Fashion for the pics & Chonz on the list, Radio Bums in this). I’ve seen Ghost perform less inspired sets in the past and heard rumors that Rakim used vocal tracks, but both of them came correct for the show and CRUSHED it (maybe the dope live band, the Rhythm Roots All-Stars, helped inspire them). Seeing Rakim energized by the band was just AMAZING, dude is the god MC, “not on a list” (c) the 18th Letter, and finally seeing him in person was powerful. There’s still a couple more dates on the tour, definitely check it out if it comes to your town.

P.S. That’s me & Ghost backstage, you’d be cheesing all goofy too if you just asked him to hold up his chain for a better picture…ahahahahaha…I’m an idiot.

My records are on TV!!!

Well not yet, but soon. I recently sent a couple of boxes of record covers out to NYC for the set of an upcoming VH1 hip hop/fashion series that looks dope. The show has a real interesting concept (I don’t know if I’m allowed to give out all the details yet) and should be out soon (I’ll post more details soon). Anyways, I don’t really have a good reason to post this other than the fact I’m a record nerd (serato is great and all but DJs with no records get the gas face) and get amused by the randomness that is my life, maybe some of you guys checkin the site care.
P.S. I’ll be back soon with some real news. Real big news. BIG. NEWS.

Saturday Afternoon, 11/3 -> DJ Low Key & more at Shoe Shine

Go ahead and mark the afternoon of Saturday, November 3rd on your calendar, it’s time for Shoe Shine again. Catch me, DJ Mu$a & Wesley Wayne spinning and see who has the hottest shoe collection (with categories like Best Men’s, Best Women’s, Oldest & Cleanest, Best Customs, Best In Show) & more at Denver’s premier shoe exhibition with prizes from Nike, the 400 & over a dozen other sponsors. Register at the 400 (2445 Larimer)/Exhibition at the Empire Building (2936 Larimer)/Doors at 4/Judging at 8/All Ages/$10 (16 & under free).

Take a second to vote Tanya…They’re final five in the running…

From the mouth of the good homey Donwill of Tanya Morgan/Ilwil ->

“please vote? please? you can vote once a day and the polls close on 10/4. if we make it to vegas i promise to play the slots, win big and buy all yall records and drum machines or something. lets goooo!”

Anyways, this would be a HUGE opportunity for TM, not to mention “Walk My Way” is a waaaaay better song that the other four finalists (big up Aeon on the beat). Speaking of Tanya Morgan, download my Mixing In Action #2 mixtape that they hosted here as thanks for taking a minute (or minutes if you wanna vote on a couple of different days) to vote. Thanks…

And oh yeah, the last time I had you vote, for fellow Radio Bum and Shag resident DJ Bedz, he won the contest with Pepsi and is now part of their national team, good lookin out and thanks again.

I’m workin on this blog for Basementalism…

So Basementalism hit me up to contribute to their blog and since my Saturdays are too busy to do guest sets on the show as much as I use to these days (sorry guys), I had to get down. I wrote my first entry last week and I’ll be adding more randomly from here on out so bookmark the page and stay tuned…

P.S. my Spitkicker blog is coming soon. It’s been taking a little longer than expected, but I’ve got some extra crazy concepts for it that should be worth the wait.

Time to cop Median’s Relief…And no, I don’t get paid off his album sales…

“Median’s Relief/will it ever hit the streets?” (c) The man himself…Well the world’s been waiting and Median’s debut album, Relief, is finally out…And the album is a monster, check out some of the early feedback and reviews here and here…Chances are that if you know me, then you’re familiar with Justus League member Median from the Relief In The Making mixtape we dropped with 9th Wonder a couple months back (25,000+ people have already downloaded it from here, check it out if you haven’t already) or my Mixing In Action #1 mixtape from early last year…In that case you know about dude’s RIDICULOUS talent and that his album is easily worth dropping twelve bucks for online or at your local independent/moms & pops record store/Angelo’s/Fat Beats/Best Buy/etc, so take a minute and pick it up…

It seems like the real heads have been supporting quality albums more than ever (Com debuting at #1/Blu & Exile gettin love on iTunes/Kanye crushing 50/Kweli dropping at #2/etc), hopefully you guys add Median to that list, his album is in the same class as all those I just mentioned…Anyways, enough talk, Median is one of those artists whose music sells itself, just listen…

Common calls the Solution “real hip hop in Denver”…

First off, I gotta shout out everybody who hit me up from the Common show all geeked last night. I was busy spinning at Shag (gotta pay those bills, speaking of which, come check out the spot sometime) when all of the sudden I get a whole bunch of text messages asking if I was at the show and saying that Common just announced that “the Solution is real hip hop in Denver”. Wow, just wow….my jaw dropped and I didn’t believe it until more people hit me up. One of my all-time favorite MCs, shouting out the hip hop night me & Sounds Supreme built from the ground up, fresh off a #1 debut, I still can’t believe it. Anyways, the point here is that if Com knows that the Solution is the real hip hop ish in Denver, then hopefully you guys reading this know what’s up too. And since most of you already know what’s up, do me a favor and tell a friend or two, thanks.

With that said, things are just getting going for the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme at our new home, the Funky Buddha rooftop (partially enclosed and heated for all seasons, gotta love that). The crowd is amazing, the vibe is different than anywhere else in Denver and you know me & Sounds Supreme stay playin the best in classic hip hop & more every Friday night. Plus, there’s no cover, the drinks flow cheap, the girls who come out like Camp Lo and we’re about to turn it up (c) Dilla with some crazy events (you know how we do) and more. Come check us out every Friday night, you won’t be sorry. 21+/music at 9/776 Lincoln.

We love you Denver aka The Solution Returns Recap…

Well it’s done….The Solution is back and Denver, we love you…We don’t kinda love you, we don’t sorta love you…me & Sounds Supreme fuckin LOVE you….the way you guys PACKED the Funky Buddha’s Roof from 9 on (y’all are some early motherfuckers, also you gotta let me know how you guys like the Median tape), the way girls came up to the DJ booth all excited when we played “Mona Lisa”, Foreign Exchange, the “Gone Til November” remix and other GREAT hip hop shit, all the beautiful women (we’re so spoiled) and cool ass homies that came through, all that ish was dope and don’t even me started about how people went NUTS for Camp Lo “Luchini” late night (who’d have thought Camp Lo would have the hottest club joint in 2007?)…Any spot where Camp Lo gets as much love as B.I.G., Kanye and Mary J is cool in my book…

Anyways, the Solution is just gettin started at the Funky Buddha and Fridays are only gonna get better so keep checkin us out Denver…We’ve got some CRAZY ish planned from here on out, so stay tuned…Anyways, time for to get ready to spin, I have three spots to spin at back to back to back (did someone say triple header?) starting in less than 7 hours, some drinks to recover from & anything less than 4 hours of sleep is rough…IN YA FACE !!! (c) Sounds Supreme….Welcome back to the Solution….

P.S. this Kanye album is AMAZING, too bad more artists don’t have his ambition and passion. Dude sets out to make some monumental ish and more often than not does it, hopefully other artists are out there taking notes.

P.P.S. Man, couldn’t dude from Coldplay come up with something better than “Oweee oweee oh oweee oweeee oh, oweee oweee oh oweee oweeee oh” for the end of the “Homecoming” hook, he already had John Legend’s big boots to fill, the least he could do is finish writing the damn hook…Anyways…

It’s favor time aka Radio Bums in this….

Please do me a BIG favor and vote for my fellow Radio Bum, fellow Shag resident and infamous Ben Affleck impersonator, DJ Bedz real quick. Bedz is a finalist in Pepsi’s Superstar DJ contest (kind of a big HUGE deal, he’d join the Pepsi team alongside DJs like Drama, Khaled & Clinton Sparks) and all you have do is head over to the Pepsi Superstar site to vote real quick (there’s also a mixtape of his up there that you can listen to for proof he’s nice). Feel free to tell your friends, repost this or make your myspace pic the image below. Thanks for the help…

What’s next on the menu (c) Pete Rock & CL Smooth

Damn, I don’t even know where to begin…The last few weeks have been crazy busy with all sorts of changes (lots of good great GREAT stuff, from mixtapes to club ish to other music iddish), here’s an update of what I’ve been up to and what’s next…

What do Dave Chappelle, Posdnuos, Michael Rapaport, M.O.P, Res & DJ Low Key have in common? Click the logo above to see. More DJ Low Key X Spitkicker details coming soon…

I’ve been building with Ilyas & Donwill (2/3rds of Tanya Morgan aka Ilwil) a lot lately, gettin music together for our new project, Ilwil & DJ Low Key – Beat Thieves 2. In case you missed the original Beat Thieves, it was a SICK project composed of both original joints and mixtape style tracks, check the review from AllHipHop.com here. Il & Don are some supa MC (c) De La ish and all the tracks they’ve sent so far have been RIDICULOUS, so keep an eye out for the free tape, it won’t disappoint…

In case you’ve been wondering, I didn’t forget about MIA while I’ve been workin on all these rappers’ (Che Grand, Median & now Ilwil) mixtapes. An impressive list of up & coming MCs/producers have already said they’re down to record tracks for it and things are just gettin started. Stay tuned for more info and snippets as things come together…

Texts, calls, e-mails, myspace messages, singing telegrams, people coming up to me in person, sloppy drawings in crayon, etc… Everybody keeps asking me what’s up with the Solution. Well, here’s the deal, both me and Sounds Supreme are workin on a permanent setup/venue/night/etc for the Solution after things didn’t go according to plan with the move across the street (recreating the vibe of what we had going on at the Shelter at Vinyl is easier said than done, I blame Tommy Lee). Anyways, we’re both still spinning at Vinyl on Fridays right now and it’s a fun night (2nd floor/doors at 9/21+), but it’s not the quite the same one of a kind experience as what people have come to expect from the Solution (with the special events, giveaways, shows, free texts, etc), so just think of it as DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme at Vinyl, not the Solution. With that said we’re workin on relaunching the Solution very soon because we love it as much as you do (more even), trust…

Everybody in Denver has been raving about Shag after CRAZY opening weekend. With me spinning on both Thursdays & Saturdays, fellow Radio Bum/Nuggets DJ/CO Mixtape King DJ Bedz spinning Fridays, a beautiful space, dope retro tiki lounge concept & great staff, Shag is about to be CRUSHIN (…yeah (c) Dilla) the downtown scene. 830 15th Street/Downtown Denver/21+/DJs at 9. Every Thursday is ladies night & the fairer sex gets $1 drinks from 7-11. Taking the Saturday at Shag also marks the end of my long running residency at Bar Luxe, one of my all time favorite spots I’ve DJed at. I’ll definitely be missing Bar Luxe, the fantastic staff (like a second family to me) & the cool ass people who come in there, but I’m sure I’ll be hanging out there on some of my off nights. It’s time to move on to the next step, just like the homey DJ Amen recently did (he took a Friday night at Jet downtown), but I’m sure I’ll be seeing everybody around (plus I know you guys are gonna come check me at Shag).

Ro Blvd, Free Speech, Sik, Micah James…these names should be familiar to you by now. If not, download “Build ‘Em Up (Summer Breeze)”, then head over to ourteamisfresh.com to get up to speed, plus there’s new stuff dropping later this month and some other projects I’m workin on with my west coast crew on the way too…

Speaking of the west coast, Blu & Exile’s AMAZING/CLASSIC/BRILLIANT/REFRESHING (I can go on and on with the praise) debut album Below The Heavens just dropped on 8/14 and I HIGHLY recommend you go cop this album, I promise you’ll get way more than your $12 worth. It’s my pick for album of the year (so far) and it’s gotta be one of the best debut albums I’ve heard in the last decade. In case you missed Blu’s performance at the Solution with me & Sounds Supreme back in June, you can check out the whole album on Blu’s myspace page and get the single “Narrow Path” on my Mixing In Action #2 tape from last November to hear what a 2007 classic sounds like…

Last but not least let me shout out my corporate sponsor, Guess But really though, I know some of you guys have seen me at my “day job” (spinning in the Guess store at the Cherry Creek Mall) over the last month plus. You can catch me playing a mix of everything from top 40 to house to random new ish from my charts and flirting with beautiful women there every weekend (don’t be suprised if you an unreleased Tanya Morgan song or a Prince bootleg the next time you get dragged out shopping by your girl). If you’re at the mall, come say what’s up and get dressed up on that “Represent” ish (“when I dress it’s never nothin less than Guess” (c) Nas). I’m sure I’m forgetting something else I’m workin on (oh yeah, there’s something in the works with Red Bull too, more info coming soon), but that should be a preview of what’s to come, stay tuned…
