Tanya Morgan/Hieroglyphics Freshly Dipped Mega Update #4

The amphitheater at Millenium Park, Chicago

Day 31 – Off day in Chicago: We ate more Harold’s Chicken, checked out Pineapple Express (funny but not as funny as expected), hit up a mall that was literally 2/3 shoe stores (no finds) and checked out Millenium Park downtown (super cool).

Day 32 – Madison, WI: I had a bad time in Wisconsin courtesy of a $186 ticket for going 80 in a 65 (laaaaame!!!) and hands down the nastiest hotel on the tour.  I will say this though, the show wasn’t bad and cheese curds are fantastic.  The next stop in Minneapolis made up for it though.

Me, Von Pea dressed up as a lego storm trooper & Donwill at the Mall of America

Von & me at First Avenue in Minneapolis

Day 33 – Minneapolis: We made a quick stop at the Mall of America before heading downtown to playing at the legendary First Avenue (as seen in Purple Rain!!!).  We were all geeked to play at a venue with so much history and hopefully our set didn’t embarrass the purple one’s legacy.  Also, I got a chance to spin a little bit to set things off to and I’m still buggin out to think that Prince has played on that stage that we did.

Me & TM rockin onstage at First Avenue

DJ Torae from Hiero under the purple lights

Hiero at First Avenue

Nebraskan jukebox classic Donuts (not pictured but in the same section, 36 Chambers and a Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings album)

Day 34 – Omaha: Nebraska was surprisingly cool.  From bumping into my Red Bull Music Academy homey/DJ/promoter extraordinaire Brent Crampton before the show and grabbing a (free!) delicious dinner at a fancy Spanish spot where he was spinning to catching up with some friends from CO to the enthusiastic crowd, everything in Omaha was better than expected.  After the show I ended up at Brent’s super dope after hours spot dancing (yep, me…dancing, just a little bit…ha!!!) til super late.  Fun night though, too bad I had to wake up super early for the trip to CO, luckily I was excited for CO so sleep didn’t matter.

Day 35 – Boulder, CO: One the second half of the long ass drive from Omaha to Denver we were hit with some of the craziest rain I’ve ever seen (and of course I was driving when it dumped rain). Nevertheless, we trudged through it and made it to my apartment in Denver with enough time for me marvel at how weird home felt after being gone for five weeks and pack up records for the show’s afterparty at my weekly party, the Solution, before rushing up to soundcheck at the Fox.  The show was DOPE, the spot was PACKED when we went on and the crowd showed mad love (check the youtube clips), except for when Von gassed them up about me wearing a tux (like I said, check out the clips).

Bonus – Freshly Dipped Afterparty at the Solution w/DJ Low Key, Sounds Supreme, Tanya Morgan & the Blue Scholars: We hung out at the venue for an hour after the show to sell some merch then we were off to Denver to hit up the afterparty at the Solution, alongside my partner on the night, Sounds Supreme.  Despite the unseasonably cold/wet weather, the rooftop patio was still PACKED tight with heads and cute girls (gotta love it).  I hopped on the tables, TM rocked a quick set and we kept the party moving as the Blue Scholars showed up and we winded down the night.  Being gone and coming home definitely made me appreciate the CO hip hop scene, heads were buggin out all night and it was a great way to cap off the tour.

I woke up the next morning at my spot hungover and tired, Don & Von took off to ultimately end up in the Bay and it was back to my “normal” life of DJing, promoting events & all the other random music iddish in Denver (for now at least).  Big up TM & IM for bringing me along, everyone involved in the tour, all the fans who came out to the shows, everyone we met along the way and a special shout to the homey Shannon out west.  Stay tuned as I get back on my mixtape grind with some projects that I’m extra excited about for the fall (I think you will be too), dope new club nights (of course), some crazy events (just wait) & more.

Tanya Morgan/Hieroglyphics Freshly Dipped Mega Update #3

Round three of my day by day coverage of my journeys on the Freshly Dipped tour DJing for Tanya Morgan alongside Hieroglyphics, Blue Scholars & more.  Hope you’re still interested…

TM, special guest Che Grand & me in NYC (pic jacked from Audible Treats, thanks Michelle)

Day 21 – Providence: Traffic out of NYC was THICK and it took twice as long as expected to get to Providence, but we still made it there in good spirits thanks to the random assortment of CDs that Von grabbed (Saadiq’s first solo joint and Snoop’s Topp Dogg album), Don’s early Jerx/Ilwil demos and his infamous new jack swing/early 90s r&b collection (classic material).  The show went down in a smaller, packed out club type venue and it was hot as fuck.  The crowd was super into things though so I can’t be mad.  Big up DJ Direkt, Sylvy and her girls and the local opening DJ who played all wax (sorry I can’t remember your name homey).

The coolest block in Portland

Day 22 – Portland, Maine: We pulled into Maine in the middle of a cold, overcast day and everything seemed cool enough when we pulled up to the venue.  The friendly door guy pointed us in the direction of food and when we walked out to see some kind of fresh little graf event going on behind the venue.  We checked it out for a minute and kept walking down the street towards food, next thing we know we’re realizing that there’s weirdos of all sorts, lots of afternoon drunks and a large amount of extra creepy homeless people around town, one tried to fight Donwill for no reason at all.  The whole vibe was super weird, I can see how Stephen King could be from there.  Anyways, we grabbed some food (local flava = haddock) and made our way back to the venue at what ended up being a good show.  The town doesn’t really get a chance to see to many shows like the tour, so the whole crowd was super enthusiastic and we couldn’t be mad at that.

Day 23 – Burlington, VA: First off, let me say that Higher Ground was one of the best venues we played on the tour.  From the numerous, clean, well stocked green rooms to the friendly staff to the super enthusiastic crowd, everything about the show in Burlington was dope.  It kinda reminded me of a newer version of the Fox Theatre up in Boulder, which is easily one of my top three favorite places to see a show or play ever.  Also, me, Don, Von, A-Plus and Tajai got into everybody’s favorite, the classic Nas vs Jay-Z debate, backstage before the show, gotta love that it still goes on in 2008.

The Burlington crowd via rushed iPhone camera shot before we got on.

Day 24 – Off Day in Burlington: The highlight of the day off was finding this bus in Vermont and getting a Ben & Jerry’s smoothy (local flava!!!).  We had an early night so we could wake up super early to head up north along with everyone else from the tour on some caravan ish (for work permit purposes).  We had heard crazy horror stories from most of Hiero about loooooong delays at the border so we cleaned up the van and got ready for a long day at customs.

Day 25 – Ottawa: We made it through customs in only four short hours.  Those four hours were actually pretty entertaining, from finding out most of the tour’s real names to joking about tour bullshit to talkin conspiracy theories with Casual outside, the time went by way quicker that it could have.  From the border we headed through Montreal (a little too French for me) and on into Ottawa.  Ottawa seemed cool enough, for some reason we went on extra early and in general the show was a little thin.  I ended up getting some skunky (or otherwise bad) Hoegaarden (which is one of my favorite beers) that left me hurting for the rest of the night.

A-Plus, DJ Lex (freshly dipped) & Knobody in the T-Dot

Day 26 – Toronto: On the way to Toronto we stopped and got some fish & chips (delicious) and some Canadian junk food.  We got wine gums (yuck, they get the gas face, regardless of what Che Grand claims), some gross slushy drink and my favorite, the kinder egg (my prize was this toy that’s also a crayon) and kinder bar.  More importantly, we made it to Toronto, which is a super dope city.  The t-dot is beautiful.  Beautiful city, beautiful women, beautiful vibe.  The venue, Mod Club, had the coolest lighting on the tour, TO packed the spot and the Blue Scholars’ homey Chev (what up Chev!) joined the tour to perform a verse feature with them too, good time.  And by the way, late night Chinese food is the shit.

Day 27 – London, Ontario: I gotta admit, I’d never heard of London, Ontario until all this tour iddish came together.  It seemed like a random ass place when I heard about it and it turned out to be extra random when we got there.  We pulled into town to check in to the hotel and it seemed like a super clean, nice Canadian city/town with the exception of some weird sex shop which was in the block between the hotel and an Old Navy.  We headed downtown before the show for a little exploring where we were greeted by what had to be the horniest stop of the tour, no joke.  It seemed like the whole town was just crazy sexually frustrated.  Grimy lookin sex shops, strip clubs, adult plays (ahahahaha), $7.99 porn DVD specials at the convenience store.  With that said, the crowd was hands down the livest on the tour.  They went NUTS when I was setting up my DJ ish and stayed nuts until the show ended.  It was one of those nights where it get so humid that it drips sweat from the ceiling.  Big up the heads in London and thanks for the energy (maybe it comes from all that sexual frustration…lol…hopefully not).

Day 28 – Ann Arbor: We woke up in Canada especially ready to come back to the U.S. after a few days of ultra limited communications (A-Plus scared me with tales of having phone bills from Canada that were so big they knocked off $400 and they were still huge) and the weird vibe of London and were greeted by a great night in Ann Arbor.  Donwill got sick from a $7.99 steaks & eggs from a diner and rallied for a dope show.  The show was especially dope from the get go.  At soundcheck I DJed a long, goofy freestyle session between Don, Von, the Blue Scholar’s producer/DJ Sabzi (who’s definitely not a rapper but was fantastic in the session) and the Scholar’s homey Chev.  A little later the Blind Pig opened doors to a line around the block that was especially up on my mixtapes (gotta love that).  When we got onstage the venue was almost packed and they rocked hard with us from the get go.  Well, except this one who stood at the front, arms crossed bobbing his head left to right in a way that made it hard to tell if he was feeling the music and or shaking his head “no”.  That dude ended up getting more into it by the end and turned out to be none other than TM’s label mate and super dope Detroit based MC Finale (and no he wasn’t fronting of TM, regardless of how it first looked).  Last but not least the crowd was treated to a very dope Von Pea freestyle after he switched up the line “my best friend’s in heaven” to “J Dilla’s in heaven” during “Stay Tuned”.  If anyone recorded that show/song (or really any of the songs from the tour), please holla at your boy.

Day 29 – Columbus, OH: We made a super early morning stop in Cincinatti to check in with Don’s fam and do laundry before copping a couple of bags of BBQ Grippos and heading up to Columbus.  At the show we had the honor of being introduced by J Rawls of Lone Catalysts fame as Don performed for his home-state crowd as we battled the minor technical difficulties that plagued all of the acts throughout the night.

Day 30 – Chicago: Chicago was an all around dope time.  AWESOME food (Harold’s Chicken is AMAZING…Mild sauce + salt & pepper = magic, not to mention Chicago style pizza is dope too), the city has a ton of personality, the lake is beautiful, the city has a lot of TM fans and we had a great turnout for the show, can’t ask for much more.  We almost completely switched up the set and the result was refreshing but a little awkward compared to how well the more familiar set (even with nightly variations) was going.  With that said, everyone in Chicago got to see a set with “3 Emcees” (with Ilyas being especially missed), “We Doin Our…”, “Bout To Be Some” and “How Low” amongst others.

Stay tuned as I wrap up all the tour iddish in the next couple of days…Video clips from Boulder, me and TM as Purple Rain extras, pics from the CO show’s afterparty at the Solution & more…

Hieroglyphics/Tanya Morgan Freshly Dipped Mega Tour Update #2

Sorry for the delay in getting this up, I started this post 3 weeks ago and for a variety of reasons (mainly no free time) I’m finally posting it up now. Better late than never, right? I’ll be updating the site a lot more now that I’m back in town though, trust.  Anyways, here’s the the second update of my day by day rundown of DJing for Tanya Morgan alongside Hieroglypics, Blue Scholars, Knobody & Musab on the Freshly Dipped tour…

Day 10 – Off Day in New Orleans/Tallahassee: The funny thing about off days on a tour like this is that they aren’t really off days at all. We slept in til like 11 for the first time all tour and spent most of the rest of the day making the drive from NO to Florida.

Day 11 – Orlando: So some days on the tour everything is real cool and kinda nonchalant and then on some days I catch myself buggin’ out (c) ATCQ on some fanboy iddish when Hiero comes on to rock. The show in Orlando was prolly the most I bugged out. Maybe it was the smaller, intimate venue (the best way to see a show from a fan perspective) or maybe it was the extra wide stage where me, Donwill, the homey Gunji & a few other cats from the tour ended up at stage right singing along to “93 til Infinity” at the end of the night on some superfan ish, but that night it really really hit me that we’re on tour with Hiero.

Day 12 – Atlanta: ATL is home sweet home (well, CO is officially home but Georgia is where I’m originally from, word to sweet tea, fried catfish and okra) and it was dope to see it from a tour perspective and grab a drink & dinner with my pops. The venue we played at was kinda crazy (they have two floors, heaven and hell…we played downstairs in hell, where the walls were red) but apparently the promoter dropped the ball on the promo side of things, word to the Horoglyphics pic on the marquee (there was actually a real good turnout to specifically see TM rock, but the overall crowd for the tour was waaaay small for how big ATL is compared to the other dates). I was just happy to be home and see some family (I also caught up with my cousins, one of which can be seen playing guitar in the Lil Wayne/Baby “Leather So Soft” video, what up Gareth) and link up with Jermiside (Lessondary!!! As featured on MIA #2 and the Fixtape, check him out with sometimes Tanya Morgan/Ilwil producer Brickbeats as the Red Giants, here’s their new song, “Never Seen A Thing” with TM, Che Grand & Spec Boogie) for a minute regardless.

CO X Brooklynatti X NC

Day 13 – Carrboro/Chapel Hill: I’d never really hung out in North Carolina until last week, despite being a HUGE fan of the music coming out from down there and getting to see things firsthand and put faces to the names of the many artists I’ve been playing from NC was one of the highlights of the tour. The homey Ill Digitz and Kooley High hooked up a dope little afterparty for me and TM to kick it after the show and we ended up building with them all night. Big up Kooley High, Inflowential, Ill Digitz, Khrysis, Cesar Comanche, M-1 Platoon & Napoleon for coming out to the show/afterparty and kickin it. I’ll definitely be workin on coming back to NC after seeing it firsthand.  Last but not least, big up the homey Median who was gonna rock “Golden Ticket” with us at the show but ended up home with food poisoning.

Day 14 – Charleston: SC was kinda crazy. The town is by the beach and super touristy (I know it’s not a word but everyone says it) and that brought a super random crowd. The show went well though, the sound was INSANE and there was all sorts of goofy ish going on backstage (not on some freak shit though). We had fun joking around with the tourists, me and Geo from Blue Scholars told this girl we had just got in from a show in Tokyo. It turned extra funny when I left, Von came in the room and they kept talking. She kept mentioning all this stuff about Japan to Geo, who’s Filipino, and Von started getting offended thinking she was on some ignorant shit. I walked back in and Von was giving the girl the crazy ice grill on Geo’s behalf, HILARIOUS.

Day 15 – Wilmington: We played at a kinda crazy spot called the Soapbox that was half laundromat and half music venue/bar. Nothing beats getting drunk at a show while cleaning your gear. Besides that, the homeys Nicolay & Aimee Flint came out to kick it and see the show since that’s Nic’s new home. It’s always dope to build with them and bug Nic to let me hear more from the new Foreign Exchange album, Leave It All Behind (for the record, he didn’t play me anything from it, although I heard some RIDICULOUS joints from it when him & Kay were out in CO last March). Catch a clip of all of us backstage plus a fresh freestyle from Geo (from Blue Scholars) on the TM Kyte channel.

Don, Von, Kweli & me in VA Beach

Day 16 – Virginia Beach: In VA we played at this venue called Steppin’ Out that we pulled up to with a confused look. The venue looked like it was more of a supper club/restaurant/dinner theater than spot for rap shows. There were mad seats (never good for a show, since people generally walk into a room, see seats and sit down) and a small stage. Those are the ingredients for a weird show and true enough, the show had a weird vibe all night. With that said, the crowd in VA Beach was super appreciative (one cat said it was the best show he’d seen in the last 2 1/2 years there and that was before Hiero even got on stage) of the tour, so we couldn’t be too mad at the weird vibe. Plus, Kweli stopped by the show and wanted to buy TM’s classic debut album (c) Chairman Mao of XXL/Ego Trip, Moonlighting, Donwill CRUSHED the karaoke stage next door like only someone who rocks onstage for a living could and we got to stop by the beach (no filth flarn filth aloud) after the show for a minute so the night actually ended up being really dope.

Von, me & Aeon at Subsoniq at XM Studios in DC

Day 17 – Off Day in DC: Like I said before, our off days aren’t really off days. We spent the day driving up to DC to record an episode of XM’s great hip hop show, Subsoniq, alongside the homey Aeon (check out his beats, they’re AMAZING). I’m not sure when it’s gonna air but it should be soon. Also make sure to check out Aeon’s blog, Aggregate Dope, and stay tuned for some more Aeon & DJ Low Key collabs in the near future (in the mean time check out his joint w/Che Grand & Donwill on the Fixtape and the all but classic TM joint he produced, “Walk My Way”).

Day 18 – Baltimore: Baltimore was dope. We started the day in a great way by grabbing one last delicious spicy chicken biscuit at Bojangles, hitting all the sleeper shoe joints (I didn’t find shit, Don came up on a score though), getting the Scenario Demo Mix that made Von literally scream out loud and finally getting a chance to wash clothes outside of DC. We were all so excited to have a chance to hit the laudromat and get back to a full selection of gear, words can’t explain. The drive was super short to Baltimore and we made it to the show with a good amount time to spare (especially since the venue seemed to be running a little bit behind schedule) before going on late than normal for a PACKED house. The crowd was kinda on some stand and stare ish but must have liked the show because a ton of people kept coming up and giving props (as well as jockin my “Obama:That’s My DJ” shirt courtesy of Sound College, cop your own here so you don’t have to jock mine…lol) for the rest of the night.

Day 19 – Harrisburg, PA: This date was weird to say the least.  It can be summed up as Von’s introduction to the magic of Red Lobster’s cheddar biscuits (and Red Lobster in general) + strange openers in place of the tour’s regular openers +  what is there to do in Harrisburg anyway? (c) Don.

Day 20 – NYC: New York is the shit. I always have a great time when I’m out there. Mad TM fans came out early to see the show and Von & Don rocked extra hard for the hometown crowd. I got to catch up with a lot of the NYC crew (big up Filthy, Frankie, John, Tyson, Che and the rest of the homeys) and we ended up at some cool little party that like half the tour later rolled into (thanks for the drinks Ope). It’s always dope to get a few slices of pizza, soak up the energy of the city and have a night where you stay at the club til almost 4 drinkin with Hiero. Special shout to Filthy and his awesome lady for letting us stay at their super fly loft (note to the rest of NYC:Step your apartment game up), make sure you check out Donwill’s tribute to J’Davey the next morning over on his blog.

Stay tuned for part 3 coming later this week…

Tragic…RIP Bionik Brown…

I met Bionik Brown at a couple of parties I threw during the time he was out here in Denver and while I only knew him in a limited capacity, he always struck me as a real positive dude who was all about the music. I wish I’d have had a chance to get to know him better, as well as hear more of his music while he was alive. He was definitely one of the best MCs in Denver, someone who was held in high regard by many of our mutual friends as a person and an artist. With that said, it’s tragic that he’s no longer with us, a loss to the city and the scene. In the words of Dave Herrera from the Westword & Bionik himself, here’s the story of Bionik Brown: Read more

Friday, 8/15 -> Freshly Dipped Afterparty at the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme plus Tanya Morgan, Blue Scholars & more

FRIDAY, 8/15 -> CO, I’m back. And I brought some friends with me. After being gone for over a month on the Freshly Dipped Tour alongside Hieroglyphics, Blue Scholars, Musab & Knobody while DJing for Tanya Morgan, I’m finally back in town. The tour hits the Fox Theater up in Boulder on 8/15 and right after the TM set, I’ll be heading down to rejoin Sounds Supreme at the Solution with special guests Tanya Morgan, Blue Scholars & more for what promises to be a CLASSIC party on the Funky Buddha’s rooftop deck (776 Lincoln). You already know that the Solution is the best hip hop night in Denver, the crowd is awesome, we’re gonna have some performances and of course, there’s never a cover, what more could you ask for? 2008 is a MONSTER.

Hieroglyphics/Tanya Morgan Freshly Dipped Mega Tour Update #1

Before I even get started trying to update things for the first time in a long ass time (sorry y’all, free time and internet access on the road are both hard to come by). Anyways, here’s a quick day by day recap. Also, make sure to check out more coverage of the tour up on Donwill & Von Pea’s blogs, the homeys Blue Scholars’ blog (with a ton of pics courtesy of Sabzi), on the TM blog on Okayplayer & video on the TM Kyte channel.
Day 1 – LA: I touched down in LA & we hit the ground running. TM, Dom from IM and the DC homeys Monica & BJ picked me up in our baller ass van and we rolled right over to meet up with my boy Brett at the Estate LA store to get some of the freshest hats out (thanks again homey) for the trip. From there we rolled over to the venue (the infamous El Rey), where some dude who wasn’t up on TM was all hyped that DJ Low Key was at the Hiero show (how he knows me but not Tanya still confuses me). Anyways, the show was the shit, mad heads were in the crowd singing every word and being geeked off watching Hiero rock from on-stage. Also, alwayshustle.com caught some dope video of us rocking, make sure to check it here.Day 2 – San Diego: Next stop was SD. We rolled down with Opio (check out his new album, Vulture’s Wisdom, it’s RIDICULOUS) for an in-store at legendary indie hip hop store, Access Music, before heading over to the show at Belly Up. San Diego/Solona Beach is a BEAUTIFUL area, it’s kinda hilly and when you go over these hills you get these awesome views of the beach (such a tease since we didn’t have any time to chill). Anyways, the show was dope, I got to meet some fans who’d been in touch with me online for a while before rushing back to the hotel to get ready for a long drive to Vegas the next day.

Day 3 – Las Vegas: We added a show at the Beauty Bar in Vegas last minute and rocked outside in downtown (aka bizarro) Vegas. The setup was real cool, people were hanging out inside a small inside part of the venue at first and then more or less got released into the outside patio for the show. After the show, we caught a little bit of the bizarro Vegas steez including fried oreos (not as life changing as I had hoped), fried twinkies (almost life changing), drinking on the streets (definitely life changing), lots of weirdos (who prolly need their lives changed) and more.

Day 4 – Tempe: AZ is HOT. Really really hot. I know it’s in the middle of the desert and all, but I don’t get how people can live down there. I guess inside and by the pool all summer is how they do it. Anyways, the show was at a dope grimy spot and the all ages crowd was out early in full force (sometimes I forget how early you come out to shows when you’re 15 and still learning about concerts. Kids lining up an hour before the doors open with their Hiero shirts on is so cool to me). Anyways, the show went well, my little sister and her roommate checked us out, I finally met Pickster One of the infamous Blunt Club and we rocked a fresh afterparty at this spot called the Stray Cat afterwards (big up Sasha, DJ Reflekshin & the rest of the crew who had us come by).

Day 5 – Flagstaff: It’s crazy that just a few hours from the hottest place on Earth you can escape to the cool, ski/college town. 115 degrees & cacti to 70 & pine trees in like 3 hours, crazy. Anyways, the cooler weather was sooooooo refreshing after the desert heat, plus it gave me a chance to rock the super dope windbreaker that my boys from Akomplice sent out along with more dope gear from their new line. Back to the show, it was cool except for the venue was all ages and they split the crowd so that there was like 80% of the people on a small area to the right side of the stage (it looked real weird). The responses to the shows in some of these smaller spots is crazy though, people are way more appreciative to be able to see some good hip hop shows and it shows.

Day 6 – Albuquerque: New Mexico is weird. We were greeted at the hotel by a giant size roach that prompted us to head over to the venue (home to more roaches) early to track down a little internet access. Downtown Albuquerque is wild too. Me & Von swore we saw some hookers (they were chilling at the same spot from like 4 in the afternoon til we left at midnight to start the long ass drive to Texas), but it was hard to tell because in the Burque it seems like the streets are full of heavy, horny women (not my steez, but some other dudes on the tour were loving them…lol). With that said, the crowd down there was super into the show and copped mad merch (gotta love that).

Day 7 – Dallas: I gotta confess, in Colorado we like LOVE to hate on Texas. Our show in Dallas was my first trip down there and I gotta admit, Dallas was really dope. The people were mad nice, the city seemed nice from what I saw and the show was at a pretty cool spot too. With that said, the best part of Dallas was this AWESOME spot across from the venue called Aw Shucks where we grabbed fried catfish (the whole fish, bones & all on some real iddish, just the way I like it) & hushpuppies that were AMAZING (best meal of the tour so far) at like 11:30 at night (if anyone from Aw Shucks is reading this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE open up in Denver, me and my people will single handedly keep you in business).

Day 8 – Austin: Everyone I know told me Austin was the shit and I’d love it. I expected it to be dope and it still blew me away. We were there on a Saturday and man, I’ve never seen a party scene like that, ever. The road was shut down for like 8 blocks and there were thousands of people roaming the streets and it wasn’t even a special occasion, just a regular weekend. It was INSANE. Beyond that, I got to meet up with my Red Bull fam, Tresa & Danielle, who took me to the dope BBQ spot and showed me a little bit of Austin before the show (thanks again girls). And the venue, Emo’s, was super fresh too. It was outdoors and hot as hell but the setup was different that anywhere I’ve seen and definitely unique (they has bleachers in the back and you had to walk down a narrow ass, fenced in walkway on the roof to get backstage).

Day 9 – New Orleans: Never been to NO before. Post Katrina NO on a Sunday is prolly not the best intro but it’s what I got. The city is CRAZY, lots of flava (not flavor, tell ’em Don). Anyways, we rocked right next to Dwele at House of Blues (we were literally a fresh ass secret door away from his show running back and forth to catch parts of it. And speaking of Dwele, props to the homey Dameion Hines aka Check One aka Dwele’s sometimes drummer, too bad you weren’t at that show). Anyways, the show was cool and then we set out to check the scene. With that said, Bourbon Street on a Sunday REEKS of desperation, real bad. It’s like when the lights come on at a club except for all night long and even worse women. Anyways, we managed to have a fun ass night regardless and more importantly ate like kings the next day (Po’ boys w/o pickles are AWESOME, peep the Kyte).

Soundcheck time…More updates coming real soon…

Starting Saturday, July 12th -> Catch me spinning for Tanya Morgan alongside Hieroglyphics & Blue Scholars on 30+ dates!!!

“Is the weather pretty? I’m plannin’ a trip to your city” (c) Median

Starting Saturday, July 12th in LA -> Catch me spinning for the almighty Tanya Morgan for 30 dates* across the US & Canada alongside Bay area rap legends Hieroglyphics and Seattle’s own Blue Scholars on the Freshly Dipped Tour. All the venues will be up on mine and TM’s myspace pages and we’re gonna be booking some afterparties as well, make sure you check us out when we come to your town. Also, I’ll have some hard copies of my mixtapes for sale (as well as a top secret project with one of the best MCs out that should be dropping like halfway through the tour) at the merch table with all the dope TM ish, now everyone who hit me up asking where to cop them can get copies and I can pay my rent back here in CO (what a win-win). Anyways, come out early and check us, Hiero is a deep crew so we’ll be on early (Donwill from TM says “think Lupe on the Glow In The Dark Tour”). Also, don’t miss updates of all the tour madness on TM’s Kyte channel, I’m sure I’ll be showing up on there some. 2008 is a MONSTER!!!

Wow, it’s crazy to type all that. Damn, I’ve never been to half these cities and going to them to rock shows with Hiero is a helluva way to do it. 10 years ago, seeing Hiero on the 3rd Eye Vision Tour was one of the craziest days of my young life (I was 16 and skipped school to drive to Boulder for the show after copping all 5 releases that dropped on the infamous “Super Tuesday“, which was the same day as the show on some crazy classic hip hop iddish). Cats who know me might have even seen me wearing the classic Hiero hoody from around that time even still, that ish is super comfy.  Anyways, I’m GEEKED for the opportunity to join some legends on tour and DJ for one of the best new groups in hip hop at the same time.

*There’s 32 dates listed above. I won’t be at the 7/11 & 8/16 shows, sorry Pomona & Salt Lake. Also, a Vegas date at Beauty Bar was just added for 7/14.

Last but definitely not least, while I’m gone Sounds Supreme will be holding down things at the Solution with a variety of guest DJs including (the Radio Bums godfather) DJ Chonz, (the world famous) DJ Vajra & (youngest in charge since Special Ed) DJ Squirt and more, so all my Denver heads, you know where to be every Friday night. Denver’s “best hip hop night” (c) Westword will still be in effect and CRUSHING with dope special events, fly girls dancing to Camp Lo, Che Grand & De La Soul, one of Denver’s best rooftop patios and more every week. Don’t miss my last Friday, July 11th before the tour starts, it’s gonna be INSANE.

Spitkicker & Frank151 shout out the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme

More good looks for Denver’s favorite hip hop night.  Heavyweights Frank151 & Spitkicker recently shouted out the triumphant return of the Solution to Fridays on their sites in case you missed it.  If you’re in Colorado and not coming out to the Solution on Fridays, here’s two more reasons to get your ass over to the “best hip hop night in Denver” (c) Westword on the Funky Buddha’s rooftop (776 Lincoln) every week.

Spitkicker says -> “X-Amount of Respect to Denver’s number one DJ/Hustler/Entrepreneur/Go-To-Guy, DJ Low Key. If you are ever in Denver on a Friday night be sure to check out The Solution held on the rooftop of the Funky Buddha. Went there after the Paid Dues show and the place was packed. Low Key and Sounds Supreme play some dope shit to both vibe and/or dance too. While I was there they had the spot on tilt. Everyone was jamming. Kidz in the Hall even came through and put on an impromptu performance.I highly recommend people check it out at least once in their lifetime.”

Frank151 says -> “DJ Low Key also hosted the Paid Dues Afterparty, as Akomplice brought the Kidz In The Hall to join fellow team members DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme to kick off their acclaimed night, The Solution, moving back to Fridays at the Funky Buddha with a Paid Dues Afterparty. Naledge & Double-O were supposed to only host, but got into the vibe real quick and performed a little set to a packed house to close out the night.”

Also, check out an album of pics from the Solution relaunch/Paid Dues Afterparty w/Kidz in the Hall in my myspace pics (courtesy of Rachel Crick) plus there’s more pics of the Solution’s AWESOME first 18 months over there too.  With that said, big up everyone who’s been coming out and supporting the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme and stay tuned for more CLASSIC Friday nights.

You seen the Tanya Morgan Kyte channel? How about the Pac Div one? This iddish is so fresh…

So there’s a dope new service called Kyte that lets you stream video from a phone into an online video player (and it’s embeddable on your blog/site/myspace page/etc, even though I can’t seem to get it to work on mine, click the image to check it out though) and Tanya Morgan & Pacific Division are the first acts I’ve seen using it. Stay tuned to TM’s Kyte player for all sorts of craziness on tour w/Hiero (coming to a town near you, check out the dates), live show footage & some DJ Low Key guest spots and don’t miss Pac Div’s player with some crazy clips as well (last week they had Ice-T breaking down his issues with Soulja Boy backstage at a show).

I was voted “Best Hip Hop DJ” in the Westword Music Showcase…Thanks Denver…

More proof that 2008 is a MONSTER!!!  Thank you Denver for voting me the “Best Hip Hop DJ in Denver” in the Westword (Denver’s premier music/arts/entertainment magazine) last month.  Thanks to the Westword Music Showcase nominating committee for putting me on the ballot and thanks again for naming the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme “Best Hip Hop Night in Denver” back in April’s “Best Of Denver” issue.  Big up each and everybody who’s been checking for me and supporting my projects since my days up in Boulder, and trust, “there’s so much more to come, we’ve only just begun” (c) Skateboard P.  Thanks again y’all…
