SATURDAY, 6/27 -> It’s that time of year again. That wonderful day where Tanya Morgan & Che Grand come out to Denver to rock, we all get hammered and I ended up yelling “I love my life” repeatedly at all of my friends, LOL. If you’ve ever been, you know it’s one hell of a time and if you’ve never been, then please do yourself a favor and come out, I promise you’ll be glad you did. Not only will we be celebrating my birthday, but we’re also celebrating some of my good friends’ as well, on some all-stars of June shit.  Shouts to boy Charley Cox (who runs Shag), Donwill (aka Donny Cusack of Tanya Morgan), my brother in ‘babwe Che Grand, my super fresh homegirl Becca, the ever-talented Rachel Crick & Mama Drop aka Monique, who are gonna be celebrating their birthdays as well. In case you’re not counting that makes seven birthdays being celebrated, imagine the fun of one good birthday party, times it by seven and make sure don’t miss out on the 27th. Also, I’m guessing there might be a few guest DJ sets throughout the night so I can have some drinkin breaks, stay tuned for announcements of who might also spin. 830 15th St (15th & Champa) downtown, no cover & we’re prolly gonna be grillin on the patio from like 8 on, so come join us early.
UPDATE: Voting ends on Monday, June 15th at noon MST. Please vote before then if you’re gonna vote. Thanks again.
Yep, it’s Westword Music Showcase time and guess who’s nominated again (shouts to the nominating committee, I appreciate the recognition & Westword, Denver’s premier music/arts/entertainment magazine). Last year, y’all blew me away and voted me Denver’s “Best Hip Hop DJ”, thanks again, you’re the shit. And while I’ve never been foolish enough to think I’m the best DJ out of a field that includes heavyweights like Vajra, Chonz, Cysko Rokwel, Bedz & more, I’ll be geeked if you wanna vote for me again as I try to become the first back to back “Best Hip Hop DJ” winner yet.
The voting process is easier than ever and you can find the “DJ – Hip Hop” category towards the bottom. Thanks again y’all, I appreciate the support. And if you decide not to vote for me, I can’t be too mad, almost everyone nominated is a dope DJ and a friend of mine, props to all the good DJs around town.

I gotta congratulate my boy Dunn the Signtologist for getting props on Common’s blog last week, dude definitely deserves the shine. We’ve done quite a few events together over the years and I’ve mentioned him on here before, so hopefully you’re familiar. If not, you should head over to his site ASAP and get caught up on one of the most creative cats I know.
Last but not least, Dunn laced me & Sounds Supreme with pieces to celebrate the 2 year birthday of the Solution back in February (thanks again Dunny, we’re honored), check out my piece below.

FRIDAY, June 12th -> Mos Def’s new record, the Ecstatic, is really really dope. He traded in the rock steez for Madlib beats and it worked out for the best. Come out to the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme on the Funky Buddha’s rooftop (776 Lincoln St) early on 6/12 to hear the new album for yourself and get some promo iddish courtesy of the label (Downtown Records). And P.S., Denver’s best hip hop night has been extra crazy lately, I recommend coming out early (as if the Mos Def ish wasn’t reason enough). No cover / 21+ / Music at 9.
WEDNESDAY, June 24 -> Oh yes…Red Bull is finally bringing their infamous producer showcase/battle to Denver and they’re bringing producer’s producers Exile & Black Milk out to showcase at it. Not familiar with Big Tune? It’s one of the premier producer based events out, period. A dozen of Colorado’s best producers will battle it out at Beta (1909 Blake St), head to head, to see who’s beats bang the hardest, with the winner going to Atlanta to compete for the grand prize (which includes a chance to record with the MC of your choice at the Red Bull studios & more, last year’s winner got to choose between recording with Common, Nas, Lupe & the Game). To make things even better, the event is FREE to check out if you RSVP here.
ATTN:Producers -> To enter please visit the Big Tune site to submit beats & participate.
And speaking of Red Bull and music, from now until July 27th you can apply for the renowned Red Bull Music Academy. You can get details on the program, download the application, check video from previous sessions & more over at RedBullMusicAcademy.com.
SATURDAY, May 30th -> Don’t miss Basementalism legend and 2006 Westword Best Hip Hop DJ winner Lazy Eyez as he joins me for a guest spot at my new Saturday night, So Damn Down, at Shag (830 15th St). It’s his first club set in over a year (I’m honored) and we’ll be rocking together for the first time ever despite working together on numerous parties and Basementalism in the past, I can’t wait. Y’all don’t wanna miss this, trust. $3 Svedka Vodkas & $2 PBRs all night / 21+ / No Cover / Music at 10.
