Highlights & pics from the Pete Rock show…

-I tried to give Pete a copy of the mixtape that me, 9th Wonder & Median dropped last year and he said “oh shit, that’s you?” and that he already had it (!!!!!!!!!!!!)…

-Pete was playin all wax and kept gettin AWFUL feedback in the spot where the club set him up to spin so we had to move him to the regular DJ booth 10 minutes into his set..The crowd kept rockin’ with us though and everything worked out fine…

-There were a bunch of heads in the crowd that got all hyped when I played Tanya Morgan “Walk My Way” and Phonte & Spinna’s great Jay Dee tribute “Dillagence” before Pete came on…There was one group of people who started jumping up & down screaming “TANYA MORGAN!!! TANYA MORGAN!!!” and all of them (guys & girls) sang every last word of the song while jumping up and down…it was AWESOME, word to my boys Don, Von, Il & Aeon…

Allow me to reintroduce myself (c) Hov…

If you’re just checkin out the site for the first time after reading about me in the recent Westword feature, coming to one of my club nights, seeing one of my mixtapes on rappersiknow.com (big up FWMJ, I still can’t believe you had Just Blaze on hold while you knocked out the BT2 cover for us), finding me on the Frank 151 & Stones Throw Records sites, or on one of the other great random blogs, sites, forums, etc that have been cool enough to mention me lately, let me take a minute of your valuable time to tell you a little bit about what me and my site are all about.

I’m a DJ/promoter (DJ by choice, promoter by default) in Denver who’s been playing records in Denver/Boulder/Summit County steady since around 2000 or so to pay my bills. I’m a big music/hip hop addict and over the years I’ve DJed at huge top 40 spots, shitty dive bars, fancy martini spots, 18+ college nights and so on and so on, but these days I’m all about working on projects that I think are dope and events I’d like to go to. That’s where the website comes in, here on the site I list the events that I’m spinning/promoting, put up charts of the music I’m into, link up free downloads of my mixtapes and all sorts of other stuff I like. Anyways, I’m gonna shut up and let the site and music speak for themselves. Thanks again for checking out the site (feel free to tell a friend or 20 or 50…lol), hopefully you find some quality content on here and stay tuned, things are just gettin started…

Behind The Scenes of the “Blu Collar Worker” Video:Part 2

Maybe you saw it mentioned on the front page of Okayplayer last week or maybe you caught it on various blogs around the internet or found it on your own.  But just in case you missed it, catch part 2 of the Blu & Exile “Blu Collar Worker” behind the scenes feature on Blu’s page at Crash TV (with a couple of DJ Low Key cameos even…ha!). Catch part 1 and more behind the scenes pics here.

Don’t miss the video’s premier VERY soon.

Lupe Fiasco’s “The Coolest” video game plus some older Lupe & DJ Low Key video…

I know it’s been out for a while and I’ve been slacking on posting this, but Lupe made a cool little video game to promote his last album, The Cool. It’s basically a scaled down Double Dragon type game featuring characters from Lupe’s concept album. I wasn’t huge on the album’s concept (don’t get me wrong though, the album’s got a LOT of good music on it, I just didn’t love the Cool concept), but this game is a dope promo strategy that the hustler/marketing nerd in me loves. Plus, it’s a fun enough game to play a few times, check it out.
Also, while we’re talkin about Lupe, check out the footage of me DJing for him in Boulder in April of 2006, before his first album dropped (Tanya Morgan was at the show too, check out those clips on my myspace video page too). Read more

Tanya Morgan/Ilwil – Beat Thieves 2 Release Party Videos

Gotta shout out Janet for these three video clips from the Tanya Morgan presents IlwilBeat Thieves 2 Release Party w/me & Sounds Supreme at Vinyl’s Refresh Fridays last month (too bad she didn’t get any video of Tone Loc’s unexpected cameo…just joking…or am I?). Anyways, the feedback on the tape have all been overwhelmingly positive, download it for free in the mixtapes section if you haven’t already and leave me a myspace comment to let me know what you think.

Clip 1 -> “And You Say”

Clip 2 -> “Walk My Way”

Clip 3 -> “We Be”

Another “Blu Collar Workers” Behind The Scenes Clip…Big Up Crash TV…

More behind the scenes footage from the Blu & Exile “Blu Collar Workers” video that I executive produced last month in LA, thanks to Crash TV (Blu has his own channel on there, check it out). The video is almost finished with editing and there should be an official release date for me to post up real soon.

dj soul & tanya morgan present “tanya morgan is a rap group” hosted by *** *******
this will be ready and out within the next 2 weeks. if youve been keeping up with us for the past year then you wont care much about this one but for those who havent youll be able to play catch up with us on this one. its a collection of all of those spare cuts weve been performing but arent on any albums or anything and theres also a few new cuts, featuring torae, kay of the foundation, kam moye (aka supastition), and naledge of kidz in the hall.

tanya morgan “the bridge ep”
this one is coming out in may. look for the title track featuring Elucid in April. Production by myself & brick beats of course, mysterious, aeon, and 88 keys (not cuddle bums). you may have read about it on the tanya morgan myspace blog but please know this is NOT some project only available at our merch table. if all goes well and we dont have to kick no ass (haha…haha?) itll be available wherever you usually buy music you like from.

sometime around those dropping, loosie music will be peer pressuring me (haha…haha?) into releasing a von pea instrumental mixtape mixed by dj low key, so for those that like my beats, youll have that to play with. the american angster stuff, the grander vonye stuff, tanya morgan stuff, i got beats man!

THEN

the main event…honestly the only thing i really truly care about these days. the true & actual follow up to tanya morgans “moonlighting” album. that album is called “brooklynati”. i want to say brooklynati will be ready and available by august of this year. we’re not just working on some songs for this, it took so much to get to this point, and more is on the line than you think, so we are approaching this album like its our final artistic statement. with that said, we promise to not disappoint.

so yea, we’re at it. if youve hit me up about working and it didnt happen, please dont take offense. like i said, a lot is on the line and im not talking about no record deals, im talking about life! we’re at a tipping point if there ever was one.
