February 2012 marks 5 years of The Solution and before anything else can be mentioned, we have to thank everyone in Denver and beyond who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s come out to the party.\u00c2\u00a0 Whether it was in our earliest days at the Shelter\/Milk Bar<\/a> or at our longest running home, The Funky Buddha<\/a>, or maybe you just learned about us via The Solution Showcase at the Meadowlark<\/a> over the last month or two, it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t matter; we wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be able to do anything cool without your love and support.\u00c2\u00a0 With that said, a lot has changed since we started the party and we want to make sure everyone knows about what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re up to going forward.<\/p>\n

As you might have noticed, the party has grown beyond just a club night.\u00c2\u00a0 Last year, we embarked on a statewide tour<\/a> with Tanya Morgan, TiRon, Whygee, King F.O.E. & Boonie Mayfield, threw our first BBQ<\/a> (with our good friends Family Affair<\/a>) and started a monthly spinoff based around showcasing new talent, called The Solution Showcase<\/a>, at the Meadowlark.\u00c2\u00a0 This year we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve already launched The Solution Boulder<\/a> at \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcRound Midnight, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re about to take the party outside of our great state for some collabs with like-minded parties in other cities and this month, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to celebrate our 5 years with 5 events that we call The Solution 5 aka #TheSolution5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, what hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t changed about The Solution is that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re still dedicated to making sure every event we throw is something we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d wanna go to, something fun and, hopefully, something a little more unique than your average party.\u00c2\u00a0 With that in mind, let us tell you about what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got in store for #TheSolution5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, February 22nd<\/strong><\/a> we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re teaming up with world renowned Red Bull Music Academy for what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shaping up to be a one of a kind celebration of the man who was quite possibly the greatest hip hop producer ever, J Dilla.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re throwing the party at Beta Nightclub (1909 Blake St<\/a>) and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an unprecedented event to hear Dilla\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s music on one of the best sound systems in the world.\u00c2\u00a0 As if that wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t enough, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re bringing out the legendary DJ Spinna<\/a> (New York) and frequent Dilla collaborators and Detroit icons Waajeed<\/a> & Phat Kat<\/a> out to celebrate with us.\u00c2\u00a0 Phat Kat will be rocking with Dameion Hines and Q-Knox of Big Wheel<\/a>, who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll also be performing a tribute to Jay Dee of their own.\u00c2\u00a0 The Solution<\/a> DJs aka DJ Low Key<\/a>, Sounds Supreme<\/a> and Lazy Eyez<\/a> will be on the turntables to kick things off and with Dilla\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s catalogue, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re gonna miss some incredible music if you show up late.<\/p>\n

Thursday, February 23rd<\/strong><\/a> is The Solution Showcase #3<\/a> at the Meadowlark<\/a> (2701 Larimer St<\/a>) and the lineup is ridiculous.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got Trackademicks<\/a> (of A-Trak\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Fool\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gold Records<\/a>) and DJ Tap 10<\/a> coming out from the Bay, bringing a trademark slap that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one of our favorite sounds out.\u00c2\u00a0 Black Actors (Quiz<\/a> fka Sunkenstate and .anansi<\/a>) is our Denver feature and the one and only Kid Hum<\/a> will be making his live production debut, plus DJ Low Key<\/a> & Lazy Eyez<\/a> will get the party started.<\/p>\n

Saturday, February 25th<\/strong> is the opening of The Art Of Records at Family Affair downtown<\/a> (2048 Larimer St<\/a>) from 6-9pm.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an art show based around classic hip hop album artwork being interpreted by top Colorado-based artists, curated by Dunn the Signtologist<\/a> and DJ Low Key<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be displaying the actual 12\u00e2\u20ac\u00b3 album covers next to the artwork and DJ Low Key will be spinning the records on display throughout the evening to bring things full circle.<\/p>\n

Sunday, February 26th<\/strong><\/a> we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re excited to present The Solution Beat Battle<\/a> at La Rumba (99 W. 9th Ave<\/a>).\u00c2\u00a0 A dozen of Denver\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s top producers will face off head to head to see who has the best beats in town.\u00c2\u00a0 Producer extraordinaire Boonie Mayfield<\/a> will be rocking a live beat showcase, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153legends in the making\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (according to Ali Shaheed Muhammed of A Tribe Called Quest) and new school vets Tanya Morgan<\/a> will be performing and we still have more on the bill to be announced shortly.\u00c2\u00a0 If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re a producer or beatmaker looking to enter, check out this post<\/a> for more info.<\/p>\n

Every Thursday night in Boulder<\/strong><\/a>, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t miss our fifth event of the #TheSolution5<\/a>, The Solution Boulder<\/a>, at \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcRound Midnight (1005 Pearl St<\/a>). \u00c2\u00a0 In the coming weeks, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be throwing our infamous chicken & waffles party up there, featuring a performance from Tanya Morgan<\/a>, hosting a women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shoe and fashion show with Installation<\/a> (an easy contender for best shoe store in the whole state) and a whole lot more.<\/p>\n
